Mine updated yesterday (IOS) then almost right away started pinging me that my pet comfort was about to be disabled due to low battery charge in spite of having ~200 miles range showing at the time.

Good to see the improvements though, if I can actually activate the extra key card they gave me that would be helpful.

The app now says my R1T software version is -999.-999.-999.

I just checked again and it now shows the correct version for the truck software 2022.23.5. I still don't see the pet mode option.

Just updated and I can’t tell really any difference at all. These app updates really have never impressed just yet. I’m hoping they are saving up all the good stuff for some massive update down the line.

I haven't heard of any Tesla owners having problems, so I think your concerns are overblown.

I've noticed that the functionality of 'cooling' the vehicle via the app is dramatically improved vs previous versions of the app. Previously, it would only work for me about 30% of the time, and could never work out any reliable method to get it to work.

Now it's worked for me almost immediately pretty much every time.

Wouldn’t the gear guard screen provide a compelling argument that the “Good Samaritan” did not have a reasonable basis to believe the animal is in danger?

you can’t just say “I thought so, therefore I can do whatever I want”. I believe the legal standard (IANAL) is “what would a prudent person believe to be reasonable”.

Unfortunately, the terms "prudent person" and "reasonable" mean something completely different here in California.

The text of the law:

AB-797 Motor vehicles: rescue or provision of care for animal: civil and criminal liability.

"acting in good faith" strikes me as providing a lot of wiggle room. California, like all states, has it's share of folks with a surplus of good faith and a deficit of good sense.

Anyway, coming back to your R1T to discover a waiting cop, a busted-out passenger-window, and the news that your dog has been taken to the local shelter--this would be not be pleasant, regardless of any consequences for the would-be do-gooder.
