Rivian App Updates: New Version Detected: 1.5.0

Changelog is:

This new release is all about improving access and ease. Plus a new feature for furry co-pilots.
• Activate new key cards and key bands in the app
• Assign keys to friends and family you’ve designated as Drivers
• Leave your pets safe and comfy with the new Pet Comfort feature
• Search the map and filter chargers by speed, network and availability
• Explore a new profile tab that’s a home for you and your preferences

Under the hood changes will be posted to this form later tonight.

UPDATE:

Below are the things we found different after de-compiling the new version of the app

Wall box is now referred to as Wall charger

Removal of the winch related UI components

New code relating to helping pairing of the bluetooth speaker

Some changes to the charging related code (Filter by networks/charging speed have been separated from the main view it looks like.

Some new Stripe framework stuff (Notable that Apple pay seems to have gotten included)

More new views(FAQ's and User Profile):

Light and Dark mode (No mention of this in the release notes? Work in progress?)

Pet Mode Assets have been added into the app (These animate petModeGaryDark1.jpg through petModeGaryDark12.jpg Light and Dark mode versions in here.)

Being able to assign keys is great. I could finally assign one of the keycards to my wife. I can't find anything about pet mode (it already showed it before the update).

Baby steps, but each improvement adds up.

I'm really hoping they let us share the same keycard with multiple vehicles (so when we get our R1S, I can keep just one card on me and unlock both vehicles with it).

I have some speculation to make about the Stripe code.

The code makes reference to "StripeFinancialConnections". This is Stripe's new Plaid competitor for linking financial institutions (like bank accounts) to apps. I know this because I'm in the process of integrating it right now in an app for the company I work for, and we're using it to provide our users an ACH payment method in our app.

This + the Stripe Apple Pay code makes me think they're gearing up to support in-app payments for charging sessions, likely via the Plug & Charge standard. Stripe will be the payment processor for all of it, and they'll use Stripe to let users add their bank, cards, or Apple Pay/Google Pay as the saved payment method to use for charging sessions.

The payments infrastructure can and likely will be used for many more services beyond charging in the future I'm sure.

I despise these especially when they make it difficult to utilize ACH micro deposits to validate instead. The privacy policies are horrific and allow them to view your transactions and balance details and other info.

You can already pat for chargepoint related chargers within the app.

Though EVGO activated a different charger for me one and I got charged for someone elses charge. Yes, the name was correct.

The website does a bunch of stripe calls too and has for a long time. I believe they make use of stripe apis for authentication and for the payments for preorders. I looked into it briefly previously but didn’t see much value into digging further.

Updated to 1.5.0 yesterday on my Samsung S22+ phone, latest android version.

The app now says my R1T software version is -999.-999.-999.

Anybody else seeing this?
