So I had a chance to extensively test the interior heating in temperatures below 10F. I was in northeastern Utah for the last two weeks where daytime temps were in the single digits to low teens and nighttime temps were anywhere from 0F to -20F. It was cold in the cab while driving anytime temps were below 10F. Batteries were warmed, drove several times for over 45 minutes and the cab was probably in the low 60s with heat on HI. Some had suggested trying recirculating interior vs. outside air (which I'd already tried numerous times). Ironically, the interior temps dropped at least 5 degrees using recirculating air and the windows and roof would almost immediately fog up. Outside air, and dressing warmly, is the only way to go. Once I reached the Park City are on I-80, temps were about 15F and the cabin warmed up to comfortable levels. GOOD NEWS: Since it was one of my first times not towing my construction trailer or snowmobiles, I was quite impressed with the range of the R1T in these temperatures. No range anxiety. I had charged to 85% and 272 miles in Garden City, UT and the trip is 130 miles. Once I hit Parley's Summit just west of Park City/Kimball Junction, I was at about 140ish miles remaining and gained 12 miles on the descent into SLC, arriving home with 150ish miles of range. Almost spot on. Made me quite encouraged to see what it's like in the summer (however, the AC will be running then and may offset the warm temps).
Additionally (and I'm quite certain this is directly related to temps), the panoramic glass roof creaks and cracks. It was especially notable on my drive back to SLC with temps being -5F to 0F. It was fairly constant, even being heard while stereo was quite loud. I turned stero off for long stretches. Some of the cracking noises were very disconcerting. One was bad enough that I pulled over to see if the glass had actually cracked. It had not thank God.
I have an appointment at the Rivian SC in SLC, UT on Monday for several, unrelated items (gear tunnel latch and panel alignment - neither opening w/o 3 - 5 attempts, door creaks, 5 tire tire rotation, etc). A rep from Rivian called me yesterday and was VERY thorough with questions on all ticket items. We spoke for approx. 45 mins and he was taking extensive notes. I mentioned the interior heating and he said that Rivian is aware of this and have made it a priority as "it is a potential safety issue". I also told him about the creaking and cracking and again, he said it's noted as "potential safety issue". He was very detailed with questions and specifics (time of day, road conditions, temps, noise types, frequency, etc). He said that they will be inspecting all the seals and paneling on and around the glass roof. He couldn't guarantee a fix for this during the appointment, but if problems are found, the will determine what needs to be repaired or replaced.
