My local service center was able to get me a new fob programmed and they sent an Uber to deliver it to me. I'm sure it's possible for a key card to do the same. They did a "cloud provisioning" so it showed up on the vehicle as pending and I was able to pair it

Would you be calling Toyota bitching about only getting one set of keys with a used car and then crying about how they won’t mail it to your house? Didn’t think so. Having to make an appointment to go get new keys is pretty standard.
That’s a little different because OP bought this car with NO keys. I’m not sure I would have signed paperwork to buy a car without having the keys in my hand first.

I assume it came with the fob? Otherwise I agree buying a car with no keys is a bold play.
Maybe it was purchased while unaware it came with keycards at all. Or they are hiding in the glove box.

I purchased a R1S Launch Edition about a month ago. It didn’t come with the key card. Trying to get a replacement has been a nightmare. After 2 weeks of trying to get Rivian to respond, they tell me they can schedule me for Jan 16 2024 for a service appointment where I have to drive an hour to go pick up a card. This seems insane to me to wait two months for a replacement key which should have come with the 80k car. I mean they know the car and my address. Why on earth can’t they charge me and mail a new programmed key card to me in a hurry? I mean, coming from Tesla, I really see how terrible their service and support is so far. 3 months for another service issue. Say what you will about Tesla, but their service was top notch. I love the Rivian but am extremely underwhelmed by the lack of support. And then I get 4 phone calls to talk to me about my service appointment in 3 months. They better address this or it will turn off future customers when they see what’s in store for them as far as service
Let me get this straight. Your position is that Rivian should mail out working keys to vehicles without so much as meeting the person trying to obtain the key who is not an original owner. JFC. I’m insanely glad they don’t do that. Sometimes an inconvenience is actually “basic common sense security and safety procedures.” Sorry you live an hour from a service center. Life isn’t fair.

The keys don't work until they are activated in the phone app- to set things straight.

I am pretty sure Rivian can set the cards up in your account and mail them to you for you to finish the activation. I'd push back on their request to drive to the service center. Possible whoever you are talking to just isn't fully aware that Rivian has that capability.
Why can't they just mail the cards?

Tesla mails key cards. 2 for $30
They aren't programmed for the car.
Easy to program them at home. Just unlock the car with a valid key then tap the new card.
Not rocket science.

Man, I’m really sorry I posted this. To see some of these people coming at me with this holier than though attitude kind of bums me out.

1. I obviously got the FOB when I bought it or would not be able to drive it. The dealer didn’t have they keycards and said to contact Rivian. Didn’t seem like a big deal at the time., knowing how easy the process was with Tesla.

2. When you buy used. It takes a few days for your Rivian advisor to verify the sale and then the car is switched over to the new buyers name. They have the VIN, my address, credit card on file and attached to the car. It’s totally removed from the original owner. So, at this point, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to.think that Rivian could make this simple and send the new keys to me. They would only work with my car. Doesn’t seem like an issue that you would need to drive to a service center for, regardless of how far away it is.

I had a valid question, I’m not some troll. To any of the posters who offered a constructive comment I appreciate it. To all the others who just try to chime in with some snarky comment spare me. And get a life.

Since people always throw out the price of the Rivian as justification of why things should be easy and the way they want it, I took look at the process of getting a mercedes key replacement. Turns out it requires a visit to the dealer for service, in order to prove ownership of the vehicle and to program. It's about $300 -$350 each key. If you remember the Movie Gone in 60 Seconds, it's even harder than Rivian to get the key.

Also, in 6 months of ownership, I've yet to use the key cards. Valet drivers may know tesla cars, but clueless with the Rivian. Fob turned out to be the easiest option.

Drive to the SC with a 12 pack of some local IPA and bribe someone to do it on the spot.

You bought the vehicle used - which you failed to mention in your first post - then start complaining about Rivian as if it was their fault you purchased a used Rivian without all the keys. Then you start whining about how they aren’t Tesla, who we all know actually has plenty of service issues of their own…. great start.

Would you prefer a system where anyone with your VIN and some easily collected information about you could get Rivian to send them a key card just because you are impatient? You should be glad they either require a mobile visit or require you to visit a service center to prove ownership.

You would rather complain and pretend as if you are a victim of something.

Same for me, but can you even program PAAK or the fob without the key cards? I don’t exactly remember initial setup.
