"You'll drive steering projects from concept through production release," sounds like Rivian may be making rear wheel steering and steer by wire in-house. :clap:

The more vertical integration the better!

Rear wheel steering on the R1S would make it feel a lot more nimble in tighter places. Not that I have any issues now with maneuverability, but man, that would be a game changer. Let me put a crazy idea out there...what if we get an even bigger vehicle than an R1S/R1T? 👀 Not that I'd want it, but it sure would be cool.

I was always a skeptic on 4/rear wheel steering until I got it on my RS6. It's really something -- makes a long vehicle much more maneuverable and really shrinks how the car feels when you're hustling on hill/canyon twisty roads.

I honestly wish they'd go the other direction with development. I don't need another fancy/expensive gizmo.

I want a truck that gets rid of the fancy suspension, electric latches, and motorized door handles. It's just too much motorized stuff to break. A simplified interior could help too.

I honestly wish they'd go the other direction with development. I don't need another fancy/expensive gizmo.

I want a truck that gets rid of the fancy suspension, electric latches, and motorized door handles. It's just too much motorized stuff to break. A simplified interior could help too.
You’re asking for the scout vehicles. Good news is that’s coming.

2023 R1T QM w/20” A/T’s
Two years in on my R1T and I’m still surprised how NOT so nimble this thing is in tight conditions - parking lots and tighter trails. I never thought of it as such a large feeling vehicle. It‘s that darn wheel base. I always have to be aware that the rear end is not exactly following the same arc and the front, and have to take a little wider path. Turning around in tight trail conditions, can be a challenge (no tank turn on mine). Makes me appreciate my previous rig, a Toyota FJ Cruiser, and another truck I have, a 1999 Isuzu Trooper. That Trooper has a very shot wheel base and is great off road, believe it or not. Rear wheel steering, while adding another mechanical complication, would sure make the R1T a different rig.

My thoughts, exactly. Let's put yet more technology into a vehicle already beyond the price point of most people looking to come into the segment, especially with the uncertainty of the industry for the next 3-10 years.

Over the past week, I've seen the chatter about the R2T going into development. They REALLY should take the queue from Slate and go towards BASIC for an EV pickup.

On one hand, I don't want to be too critical. There are so many things I love about my Rivian, including things I just criticized like the air suspension and the ability to remotely open things.

The whole design philosophy seems to be missing a lot of what's needed for adventure. Sure, it's a highly capable vehicle. But nothing is self-servicable. As an example, I'm looking at a camper shell or GoFast style camper. I'm struggling to find a way to hook into 12V power and brake light signal in a way that won't void my warranty for any electrical problems that come up in the future. Attaching brake-light accessories shouldn't be this hard.

Rivian has a lot of great features. But they need to make some changes to design philosophy if they want the R2T (or whatever) to appeal to people that actually spend time outdoors instead of cosplay adventurers. They need to make versions that are about 30% less Range Rover and 30% more Tacoma.

Rear wheel steering is the only feature that I miss after finishing a lease of an EQS SUV 580 and now leasing a R1S Tri. The maneuverability in parking lots was excellent.
