No doubt, but it’s a bit strange to buy an electric vehicle, presumably in part to be environmentally forward thinking and then intentionally nerf efficiency for what is arguably a pretty underwhelming look. Is it improving on the original paint, no.
I couldn't agree more, but the company also advertises a lot of trucks and 4x4s that have massive Rims and Street tires. So I don't think they are in to functional improvements.

I loved the defused look. I hope to hear more about practical implications of ownership (efficiency, scratching up pedestrians, …… .

Something to keep in mind when my El Cap is all scratched up and needs a new look in 10 years.

It's interesting. The closer then pictures get the more I move from liking it to not though. I think it's the texture and associating it with someone using a shitty truck with shitty can spray paint.

The look is cool though. But maybe from a distance.

Who said it kills efficiency? The reality is that its probably less than 300lbs for the full truck. Could be even less depending on the thickness he applied it. That 300lb estimate is based on the applied thickness that is indicated for truck beds which is much thicker than would be required on some body panels. Many people carry that much unnecessary crap in their car daily.

To the extent which it impact aerodynamics is not known and likely negligible.

Seeing as nobody actually knows if the dude travels off road or even down windy road with overhanging trees (I have several scratches on my truck from narrow roads and night travel), anything about his motivations or justifications is speculative.

As far as a durability improvement over paint against scratches and impact, it most certainly is an improvement if that was his concern.

Personally...I sprayed my old Hayabusa with what used to be called "wrinkle" black and people, including me, loved the look.

This has been a common thing in recent years on off-road trucks and suvs, so not surprised that someone has done this already to a R1T.

That being said, while I don't mind the overall look, in its new state, I would hate to do it to a new vehicle knowing what this stuff looks like after a few years of wear and tear.
