Feedback from the owner after a Tahoe trip:

"Got a little rubbing in low, kept it at standard for most of the trip. Since these aren’t the RIV stamped tires they’re a little louder but nothing that was unbearable. Overall happy with the setup, I wish there was a little snow on the ground to test the snow performance though"

I'm not typically a fan of a lot of aftermarket wheels but for some reason this seems to fit this truck extremely well in my eyes

So are they larger wheels/ tires and that’s why there is rubbing? I’m a little surprised to hear the AT3 are louder than the Pirellis. Was the owner coming from the 20” ATs?

Guessing the wheels are +18 offset since that was what a lot of wheel manufacturers have already produced in the Rivian's bolt pattern, for the RAM. Rubbing on the wheel well liner due to tires being further out from the center of rotation.

I would not want to change the scrub radius by 3cm, that's a huge change. I did something similar on a JK Wrangler years ago and it drove like crap.

What are the details on the wheels / tires?

Wheel size?
Offset?
Bore size?
Back Spacing?
What tire size was used.

As noted in my other posts, including one long thread where I went through 5 different sets of wheel and tire packages looking for what I found to be just right.

My conclusion was the 18mm was the maximum offset the truck could take and if going to 18mm, recommended sizing the tire down by one from 275/65/20 to 275/60/20. That brings the tire size equal to the 21 and 22 inch wheel / tire packages Rivian offers and prevents any rubbing with the 18mm offset wheels.

In the photos, these look like they have more than +18mm offset (meaning lower number). Guessing around +15mm offset? The look great on the truck, but based on the above, 15 mm offset wheels, even with the smaller tire size, would likely still rub some under hard compression.

I have the same wheels with diff tires, and it makes the tires extremely sensitive to balance issues, but overall doesn't change how it feels much since the racelines are 9"wide vs 8" OEM width wheels so the scrub radius is brought back in a little.

Do you (or anyone) notice more kickback/bump steer or torque steer with the new wheels and tires? What about increased steering effort? That would be typical of moving the OE, likely slightly positive scrub radius, in a more positive direction with the reduced offset wheels.

Both offset and scrub radius are measured with respect to the wheel center-line, so wheel width would not change the scrub radius (with all else equal). However, if the tire has a larger diameter, then that would compensate for additional positive scrub radius caused by reducing the wheel offset.

Haven't checked bump steer. Shouldn't change just by changing the wheels.

For me, with the 20x9 18mm offset wheel and going down one tire size to 275/60/20, the truck actually handles notably better. Wider track width of the truck having more offset, slightly lower profile tire with less tire rollover and slightly wider wheel further reduces sidewall flex.

I don't notice it being any harder to turn the wheel.

Have you noticed a change in range with the aftermarket tires? I assume they are much heavier than the OEM tires. Could you post the size of your tires?

I drive in Sport more than any other mode, as nice as some of these Ram 1500 look and cost, can’t do the +18/20 offset with all the documented rubbing.
