I said this in earlier post when I met RJ back at the Overland Expo in 2019 at Flagstaff. He said it can take three years for a gas station to be built and only 30 days for charging stations to be built.

it is a cool fun fact.

Cool but it can also take over nine months for some on the east coast still waiting after the initial work has been done. Not sure why some are so quick and some so slow. They had intended to have 600 sites by the end of the year, that target has been dropped and they will be lucky to have 100 by the end of the year unfortunately.

Good to see some progress! We're up to 13 open stations. Now let's get some open east of the Rockies!

FWIW, to keep pace with Tesla's Supercharger build-out (locations, not total chargers), Rivian needs to open 17 more this quarter.

Interesting stats, thanks for sharing. I would expect Rivian to be quicker since it is ten years later and technology and know how have moved on. Also they set a target just over a year ago for 600 (since dropped) and had time to plan locations. At this rate I can’t see them getting to 100 by the end of this year unfortunately. EA has also built out many hundreds of sites in just a few years.

My guess is they are being limited by some sort of part. The sites that just popped up in Oregon were basically installed for the last month or two at least and they've suddenly flipped them on within a week of each other. There are a few other sites around the Country in the same boat with charging equipment installed or just waiting on the dispensers.

Seems a reasonable hypothesis. There were reports of some charging stations in VA and NC that had been ready six months ago but we’re awaiting the charging boxes. Certainly some delays.

The Rivian employee I spoke to at the Sacramento location back in early December told me that it was a parts issue. He also told me at the time that Coos Bay and Madras would be coming online "soon". I just didn't realize that meant a month later and not a week or two.
