Lets see how accurate their internal simulations are. 229kWh battery is just ridiculous. I have to wonder what the biggest size is going to be available in the Cybertruck. I imagine RAM just got tired of waiting for Tesla to release new figures.*Based on manufacturer internal simulation data. Actual mileage may vary. Class is Electric Pickups.
As a driver I'm definitely not very interested in having a screen for the passenger, seems like there's going to be too much distraction. If the passenger is having to lean forward at all to touch it they're going to get in the way of the side mirrors. That all looks great. Except wow that interior is BUSY. A bit too much going on for my tastes
The Hummer EV's nominal capacity is >245 kWh but they only allow you to access ~212 kWh. GM will probably unlock more of it in the Silverado and Sierra as they test, just as Rivian has been doing with their pack. This thing has got to weigh 9,000+ lbs with that large of a battery. The Hummer EV weighs 9,000 lbs with a slightly smaller battery.
Charging curve is going to be super important. First ~50% in the Hummer takes around 30 minutes but the rate of charge drops off precipitously after that. GM just can't evacuate enough retained heat energy and they have issues with the 400v/800v pack switching because of it.My curiosity will be more focused on what kind of TOWING Range that big-ass battery will offer. If this truck can pull say 7,500 lb aero-trailer a good 250+ miles then finally there's a legit EV option for cross-country adventuring.
Cross country? Even if the 229kWh battery can achieve towing that style trailer 250 miles I can't imagine how annoying it would be to wait around for the battery to charge back to 100%...or more practically 80% from 10%. So start with 100%, drive 250 miles, charge back to 80% (160kWh assuming DC fast charge and the Ram is 800v) taking ~1 hr in the real world, drive 200 miles, charge 1 hr to 80%, rinse/repeat. Of course that is in a perfect world, which cross country EV charging is not.My curiosity will be more focused on what kind of TOWING Range that big-ass battery will offer. If this truck can pull say 7,500 lb aero-trailer a good 250+ miles then finally there's a legit EV option for cross-country adventuring.
I'm not sure the 229kWh they quote is the full battery or just what they provide access to as well. Regardless, this thing is going to be a beast. The Hummer EV's nominal capacity is >245 kWh but they only allow you to access ~212 kWh.
