R3X First Impressions - Design & Quality

Yeah, couldn’t get anywhere near close enough to touch it. Maybe this means they’re relaxing a bit…. Maybe they now have more than one functioning prototype?

Anyhoo…. While we’re planning to replace our Model Y with an R2 (which they also wouldn’t let us touch in Denver, or other places apparently), I’m really thinking I may have to buy an R3X just because. I’m not too wild about that yellowy-tan color on the seats, would much prefer a gray, but I absolutely love everything else about this car.

My wife said the same thing about the seat color. I’m sure there will be multiple interior colors to choose from. Personally I like the yellow it’s very different than what else is out there.

I've got an R2 on reservation but totally plan to grab an R3X. Don't know if that will be instead of or in addition to.

The R2 is probably more practical for the space but the R3X is so much more intriguing. Even more so with the photo details.

If it becomes a pick one or the other situation, I'm leaning towards R3X. So excited for this little hatch.

I wasn't really planning on replacing either of my vehicles (R1T and Ford Mach-E) until they were no longer financially reasonable to repair.

But the R3X has me absolutely looking at replacing the Mach-E. (Which is funny, because Ford teased the Mach-E Rally just before the R3X reveal, and I was all "oh, I might upgrade my Mach-E sooner than I thought!" for a couple months until the R3X reveal.)

I'm also seriously considering trading my MME for a R3X. I'll likely be more than ready to upgrade by the time it releases. There's a lot I like about the MME, but the R3X just feels more like my jam!

I was wondering a couple of things, if anyone has input...

Firstly, what is that strapped behind the driver's seat? Looks like an extra cushion...

Secondly, Does anyone know if the pano-roof have the electro-chromatic dynamic glass?

Can't wait to see this in person!

I overheard that either or maybe both the R2 and the R3 had a recess in the back of the front seats to stow a small backpack
Maybe a day bag of a laptop bag

Lot can and will change between the marketing prototypes and the production models.

Build quality in mass is a hugely different than one-off hand built prototypes. That said, if Rivian tries to keep the essence and the approach to the R3X, I'm sure it will be popular vehicle.

There looks like will be lot of hot hatches from many automakers in the next couple of years tho...

They had one of their designers on hand for the showcase. He stressed these are production intent prototypes. So while smaller details may change the overall is going to be close to what's on show.

The R3X WILL be my next Rivian. The sooner they get it into production the sooner I can give them more money. I like the R2, but it’s not really on my radar.

Let’s hope they hit the target of 2028.

Keep in mind though, this is a one-off hand built concept. I wouldn't take it to be a literal representation of production car. Plus, much can change in details, like materials, in the next few years. The same way things changed for the R1, from concept to all iterations of production.

I was just going to say that. I don’t think you’re going to see that cork material on the dash anytime soon. The Telo has that on the doors and when asked about it they said they’d like to use it, but in its current state it’s not a very durable material.
