As I suggested: guards preventing accidental operation would probably allow traditional operation and also satisfy the regulation.
Also, I'd hate having to flip a guard out of the way so much more than having to train my muscle memory to think push/pull instead of up/down. If there were a guard in the way, that would probably be broken or taken off in short order.

preaching to the choir here. take it up with the govt regulators.

also keep in mind that regulations trail technology, often by decades (take matrix headlights, for example). the regulations were written well before the era of software defined vehicles and based on the available technology of the time but it's what manufacturers still have to adhere to today until the regulations are changed.

All windows are the same on every car ever made.

PULL = window up
PUSH = window down

Where the window button physically sits in the car is of no consequence.

If you are suggesting they change it for all windows on all cars going forward...ok sure you can have that opinion.

personally, I don't have an issue with current regulation. it's only an issue if you've mistakenly assumed that the direction of motion of the control correlates with the direction of motion of the controlled surface as opposed to push/pull actions correlating with open/close.

Why make it more complex with yet another sensor/physical guard/software to control? How hard is it for your brain to make an adjustment and not worry about it ever again?

When I bought my first EV in 2021, it was the FIRST time I had ever even been in EV, let alone driven one. I had never experienced regenerative braking. By the time I drove the 25 miles home, I had grown accustomed to it.

I really believe that you're overthinking this.

The text of the regulation, which I linked to and quoted, does not have an exception clause and does not say that the button must be protected. It very clearly says "An actuation device for closing a power-operated window must operate only when pulled [...] down (if mounted on the underside of an overhead surface) [...] in order to cause the window to move in the closing direction."
Let's lock the thread; nothing left to discuss.

This is an overreaction and nothing burger. It might seem counterintuitive but you could argue since it functions exactly like the other windows buttons in the vehicle its better to be consistent. You'll get used to it in a few weeks.

Are we THIS SOFT as a society that a button that operates the opposite as our preference suddenly is a major calamity? It's not like you turn the steering wheel left to turn the car right. I get it--change is hard; but trust me, everyone will be fine.

Not sure what there is for OP to "get used to" as it's the same as every other vehicle ever made lol :giggle: seems like the thread was just a rage bait venting session haha

You could still get used to that.
