Hi folks,

Some people have found that the hitch pin provided with RockyMounts racks is too short (thread here). I contacted them today and they let me know they are now making a Rivian-specific hitch pin, you just have to contact them and they'll send you one to use.

I have a set of 1up roof racks on my bed rails and without thought my son loaded the bikes handle bars facing backwards. Efficiency on that drive home seemed to be much better than on our way to ride. I've done some very unscientific testing and it appears to be about 0.2 miles per kWh better. I need to get more scientific, but curious is anyone else has done testing.

All my testing has been with 2 bikes on the bed (A Fuel EX and a Pro Caliber) and a 3rd on a 1up hitch rack. Pic is just because the setup looks so good.

Here's my rig with a Dakine pad on the back + my super high tech gear tunnel shuttle.

Loving the high tech gear tunnel shuttle. I think I have a bright yellow one of those kicking around the garage somewhere. Might have to dig it out.

Here’s my version of the Ride88 mounts attached to the BuiltRight molle panel. Used it for first time today. Not yet sure how I like it. The BR molle has a bit of flex in it that worries me about keeping the Ride88 attachment hardware tight. I may order the Ride88 utility track to provide a more rigid mount.

This is a good setup for local hauling to the trailhead. I will be using the hitch mount rack for long distances so I don’t have to leave tailgate open on the highway. The Ride88 mounts have a quick release attachment that makes it easy to remove. You can also fold the mounts down so that the tonneau cover can close over the top of them when not hauling bikes.

I tried a 2" drop at both 7" and 9", neither was enough to let me drop the tailgate with my Thule T2 Classic down. You would need 4 inch, but even then it sticks so far out to make it work it just looks weird when it's open and bikes mounted.

But good news: you can fold it up if you use a stabilizer! Without a stabilizer, it was rattling and touching the lightbar.

What'd you end up doing? Just live with it? Have a Thule T2 Pro that I haven't tried yet. Probably similar

I liked the ride88 setup but didn't want to spend the cash on new ones. From that inspiration I found 2 used Thule Insta-Gaters for $80 each and mounted to a Toyota bed rail.
The plastic mounts required a bit of trimming on the back side to slide into the rail, but has been working great for a couple of months now. The toyota rack also needed a trim and new mounting holes.
To clear the bed I release the rack from the ratchets and put it in the tunnel.
$200 all in

Yep, living with it. Opening the tonneau more often than I'd like 😅

I might try a 4 inch, especially for some summer trips I have.

Assuming the Thule classic can pivot the bike platform down? Need to install and try but hoping with the pivot downward and removing inboard bike's pedals would give more clearance to allow for a down tailgate. Thinking about how we would access a cooler in the bed while charging (DCFC on roadtrip) with an RTT. Opening tonneau wouldn't help much. Can't justify the cost of a hitch swing
