I don't know if this has been mentioned already but if it has, sorry.

Today, where I was in SoCal was around 100F and extremely humid due to monsoonal weather pattern. Not quite 99-99 that you find in FL (I use to goto the Cape often all different times of the year).

What I found in my R1S, that I just picked up, is that the way I sit and have my seat set is several inches below the glass roof. As I reached my hand towards the glass roof, the temperature increased significantly. Luckily, my normal seating position has the seat at the lowest setting (wish it could go lower) so I didn't notice how hot the upper zone of the cabin is compared to where I sit.

So my recommendation is, sorry for very tall people in advance, try sitting lower and set your AC to blow higher such that you are out of the hottest part of the cabin.

I know, you're thinking this is ridiculous to modify driving position to avoid the heat. You're right, but without other fixes or until you get a cover/film or whathaveyou to lower the temp, it is a work around.

Just food for your thoughts.

I think people also under-appreciate just how much heat pours through the enormous R1 windshield. On a really hot day, if you put your hand on door's vegan leather and then compare it to the exact same material on the dash, there's a massive difference. Dropping a high-quality shade in the windshield is a game changer. Lots of people have reported similar results with (clear) IR tint on the windshield.

Just got back from an overlanding trip in the desert for 3 days with temps hovering around 100 each day. Have tint shade on roof glass and tint all around. Worked beautifully and cooled fast. Can vouch for that being a huge help.

I had always wondered why many of the new vehicles have this obsession with massive glass roofs. You get into the southern states and you'll be sizzling like fajita meat for no discernible reason.

I agree. I don't find the glass roof to be a benefit. I would as soon have a metal roof. I have a sunroof in my Silverado. The shade always stays closed. I have installed a shade that covers my R1T's glass roof. I put in the reflective portion above the screen. It blocks 100% of the light and heat. This keeps the cabin much cooler and provides the additional benefit of blocking out all of that sunlight. I will most likely keep the ceiling shade installed permanently.

The R1T's cooling system is working well for us even in mid summer Florida heat. We have found another Rivian feature that works very well for us. When we are out running errands in the R1T, we use the pet minder feature to keep the cabin cool while we are out of the vehicle.

An electrochromic roof as an option would’ve been awesome. It’s a shame they dropped that idea a long time ago.

For those with the R1T you can purchase a sun shade that has a silver top side so it reflects most of the sunlight that comes through the glass roof vs regular sun shades that are black on both sides. I have the Hansshow shade below in my R1T and it really helps to keep the cab tolerable.

Did you get that for a R1S and how did it work?

She is handling the heat really well and keeping me ice cold to the bone.

44 degree differential between exterior and interior temps with no tint and people still need to come up excuses to justify their greed / desire to cash out.

either get a tint/windshield shade or pre-condition or do it all but don’t make excuses to justify your greed.

I have an R1T, and the Hansshow shade with the silver top works quite well.

I was complaining about how hot the R1S was in Phoenix when it was 99 outside. I cannot think of how it would handle with 115+ degrees !!!
