It was not that expensive and a fraction of the price of the truck.
500$ ? I understand the frustration ( I am also Waiting for mine) as the absence of a bed cover makes this cargo space almost useless but the « ton of extra money » paid argument is surprising…

Interesting, my v1 has worked flawlessly since 2022 and I never got a replace repair call.
Same for me. I asked once if they could do the upgrade during a scheduled service, but they declined and said it would only be done once they called me to schedule. Have received zero calls but my OG cover is still working fine.

I was told they switched suppliers for the harnesses on the non retrofit models and they are delayed in getting parts out. Either way, regardless of cost Rivian has an obligation to do something but they have taken the stance to just keep delaying…… with no alternatives. I’d even be less frustrated with a $500 gear store credit to acknowledge ….

paid a ton of extra money
Ton? No.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out if true about the re-redesign. Seems like a lot of us (myself included) got an R1T with the PTC discounted to $500, under the explicit promise that it would be installed in late 2024. If Rivian is really pushing them all to 2025, that’s going to be an issue.

I think $1500 for the tonneau cover option is a ton

Yeah, it was kind of frustrating. The GMC dealer kept trying to get me to agree to purchase the powered tonneau cover for a Hummer EV I was looking at separately through them, instead of getting it as an option directly.

$3300 for it and then price of installation. Needless to say I told them no. But sadly I wouldn't buy a truck without a reliable power tonneau now.

Seriously it's the most important feature for me and all the things I transport aside from not having to pay for gas.

I do scratch my head when I think I could probably buy 4 wheels and tires for the price of the tonneau, but I absolutely know I would be happy with my truck not having it.

Rivian you did it again!

Just take my money and let me ignorantly live in bliss.

This^^.

I lived with a manual tonneau cover (BakFlip) on my F-150 for 14 years before discovering how nice a powered tonneau cover was. I could never go back to not having one.

As was the case for quite a few of us, my R1T shipped without the PTC and at delivery back on 4 June, Rivian said they expected installation to happen sometime in the Fall. Lo and behold, about three weeks go, Rivian contacted me to say that the parts for the PTC were available and to schedule an appointment for the installation.

The earliest appointment I could get at the overworked SC closest to my location was 25 November. With that installation date, the odds that the parts for my cover will still be on hand so far in the future are likely slim, regardless of whether there's a V3 iteration or not. I'm OK with the delay/cost trade-off, provided that Rivian is able to install the tonneau before my annual trek to snow country in late Feb of next year.

And still almost every truck they sell includes the PTC to be installed later... I guess they really want that extra $1500 in revenue.
Yeah, and it's taking so long for Rivian to get this project going that trucks are being sold on the secondary markets with Rivian still owing the original owner a PTC. This could get very messy with second and possibly third owners now owed a fully paid for PTC from Rivian from years earlier

My second attempt is rapidly approaching (Oct 1st) so I’ll have in the back pocket my non-disappointment card when they reschedule this by the sounds of it haha.

Ordered a shop R1T and Tonneau cover "will be installed later" even though I should be taking delivery later in September. I know this has been covered but I simply can't understand a company taking $$$ for an option, or selling a shop R1T WITH it configured and it's not available at delivery. It is such a strange and self-sabotaging concept.

I feel very fortunate that my late July delivery had the PTC installed already. I was pleasantly surprised!
