I love the concept and design of Aptera, but they’re struggling to get funding as well. They’ve already gone bankrupt once after people were brought in to save them. Then the original founders bought the rights to everything and started again.

According to several EV YouTubers who saw the production intent Aptera at CES they’re still really far behind and need more money for testing. One of them even claimed that the CEO said they won’t have ABS on the final production model and that they weren’t required to add it because it’s a three-wheeled vehicle.

I personally think that $40K for a 2-seater that is estimated to go 400 miles, hasn’t been crash tested, and isn’t required to have certain safety features is a risky proposition.
Roger that. Since they add plug in range 3-4x as fast as our R1T large, We went for the $29k 250 miler - lighter and less battery real estate.
It was nixed.
One thing of interest was Henry Ford-Ing colors and model selections for their LE to focus on production.
Cancellations may have been on the handfuls.
If the R3 were closer it would be our grocery getter and with all due respect we’re all in for bumping it ahead of the 2

I suspect they'll be back, as a private company, wholly owned by AFV (the CEO's personal company, which also happens to own the manufacturing facility on OK and the tier 1 debt that will be the first to be repaid, if there is any money left). Chapter 7 will get things wound up quickly, most existing suppliers won't touch anything to do with AFV in the future, but I still don't think the fat lady has truly sung on this one (she has for any shareholder though)

The R3 should be a decent seller but there should be more margin in the R2 so really makes sense to do that first to help finance the R3.

Really would have been good if the R2 could have been second half of 25, hope it does not go deep into 26 before it hits the market.

The Telo Truck is a similar design but smaller and lighter but with a full size bed.
They do this by eliminating the large front area since it's not needed for an EV.
They seem to be trying to avoid the pitfalls of other failed startups.

The id buzz is a better option for a van and it isn't doing all that well.

Two factors... High interest rates & consequences of sticky inflation, reducing consumer buying/borrowing power. Plus, one that is more mental than factual, range. Consumers think they need at least 300 miles of range even if they hardly ever drive that far on a single day in any given year.

I agree. They took their id platform and used it on an inefficient aerodynamic vehicle. For EU countries it might work but even they drive pretty long distances, have the high speed autobahn and have lots of cold weather. My cousin's Skoda EV eats battery.

Still I'd take it over a Canoo because I grew up in a VW bus.

I was really loving the idea of Canoo, but apparently their management was incompetent and VW got their VERY similar van produced before Canoo could get going. Hopefully, some EV company buys up Canoo’s remains and fulfills the promise of this vehicle.
