I got a surprise “It's time to confirm your configuration!” Email on July 10th. I confirmed on July 12th and then got a Text on the 19th that my vehicle was in Atlanta and being prepped for delivery. Being as the VIN is Approx 7800 and a week from confirming to it being at the service center I think it’s safe to assume it was already built well before they told me my truck was ready to build. Did I get someone else’s reject as my assigned VIN or am I misund the process/timeline? #FirstWorldProblems

If you ask 5 Rivian guides you'll get 5 different answers on this but I think the consensus here is that VINs are assigned sequentially or close to it at production so I think your truck was probably built in the May timeframe. That said, there are a ton of reasons it could have been unclaimed that don't involve it being a "reject" so to speak.

It was probably assigned to someone else originally, but as others have said there are a variety of reasons they could have chose not to finalize the purchase.

The most obvious one is their financial situation has changed, or the rising financing rates made the purchase impractical. I wouldn't worry about getting a "reject" if I were in your shoes. I was a may 2021 reservation holder that got a high 3000 VIN, and definitely in the same boat. I do not regret my decision to purchase. I love my R1T.

4 weeks ago I took delivery of 38xx, built in March, and many deliveries were in the upper 7xxx range. If your "orphan" is as good as mine you'll be pretty happy ;)

...RIVN building with parts on hand then waiting for the supply chain to deliver the one or two missing pieces is the most likely scenario...

Do they still have 5 different Rivian guides after last week’s announcement ?

A cast off? Meh. It’s not like these are factory seconds.

I’ve had great deals on new cars before because someone backed out of a factory order that happened to be optioned close enough to what I wanted.

this is like that, except the “great deal” isn’t the price, it’s the lack of waiting.

I created my ID just to respond to you....

Don't worry about the VIN number, I purchased a 2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance(already had 500 miles on it)(May be a Demo) for 10K discount from Tesla during the Q1 Quarter push. I was wondering for many months what was wrong with this car. In my 3 years on ownership(35k miles) I could not find single fault with the car. During the same time I have seen many complaints of 2018 models and sometimes 2019 and 2020 models too.

The same thing has happened to me now, got assigned a VIN recently(82xx). Most likely some one rejected it or many number of unknown's could have happened. But now I am not going to wonder and keep scratching my head on what's wrong with the truck instead I will just enjoy the truck to the fullest.

My VIN is 83XX, I'm curious to see the actual date of manufacture. I'm not sure the VINs have been sequential.

One more reason I am saying that the vehicle was already built was, Build Confirmation to shipping and delivery to east coast is only a week timeframe.

It could've been a line my guide just fed me but I was told my vehicle was already on its way to my local service center by the time I had the intro call to my guide. Part of a batch they were sending to the region. My first action was actually picking a delivery day, I did that before starting any of the other steps.

My vin 84xx was assigned on July 10th still waiting for 8th step to unlock. Mines likely same as yours, passed over by someone else. Seeing Vin numbers in the 9k range being delivered. As others said I wouldn't worry about the Vin. All of us are buying year 1 vehicles regardless of Vin 1k to 25k.

*Supposedly* the only way NOW to get another person's reject is via the Shop. Many others have gotten alerts that their trucks were ready to be delivered at the same time their 8 steps opened. Rivian's queue / delivery process is still working out the kinks (is mostly kinks?)
