Order Now or Wait??

SO EXCITED to receive my invite to order - day one res holder and had the Aug/Sep timeline. Here's the issue - I will be out of the country from Sep 16 - Oct 1. I live in central Iowa - the closest SC is Council Bluffs, don't know for sure they are doing deliveries yet. Second closest is Kansas City, third would be the plant in Normal (happy to drive there, four hours is nothing!)

When we did the test drive the SC folks in Kansas City said odds would be that a delivery would be on the earlier timeline due to the proximity to the plant.

I have seen some smoking timelines lately from invite to delivery - do I roll the dice and hope I can take delivery before I leave or suck it up and wait??

Timeline depends heavily on configuration but I would just order the day before you leave.

Order it. If it comes in early, then schedule upon your return and it'll have to sit at the delivery center until you can pick it up.

I ordered our R2 last week and we have an 8-12 week delivery window. We are scheduled to be out of the country in October, and if I'm out of the country, then delivery will have to be when I'm back.

I've heard they will only hold it for 10 days - can anyone confirm? I'm doing a pretty standard config - catalina cove, black interior, 20" wheels

Instead of turning to rumor mill, call a Rivian sales rep and ask.

Last time I called they were unfortunately not very helpful...maybe it would be different now that I have the order invite? I've seen so many different responses on pickup - perhaps it also depends on the service center?

You're only gone for 14 days, and I imagine they would be willing to hold it if you are actively away from home. I think their policy is there to prevent people from delaying for convenience and letting the SC act like a parking lot. If you get a fast turnaround time, let them know about your travel plans and see if they can expedite the inspection to take delivery before you leave. Otherwise, chances are the original delivery would be within 10 days of your return anyway.

I would place the order now and then coordinate with the delivery team one way or the other. But I was also very impatient about my order, so take that as you may.

Like any company, there are good/ok/bad employees. You pay a fixed monthly fee for phone service? doesn't cost you more to call more. And if you hear any particular answer repeated more often than others, then...

If it's that big a concern for you and you can't get a straight answer directly from Rivian (nobody on the forum will know for sure), then the safe bet is to simply wait and place your order the day you return (let the test pilots have some more time to work out issues), or even a day or two before returning (assuming you will have some sort of internet access. Why cause a completely avoidable stressful potential issue for yourself just to feel good about hitting the order button.....it's not like your space in line is going to disappear.....

Congrats! I just ordered, and will be away a couple times in the next 8 weeks. Will just plan delivery around it so it’s waiting for me, not the other way around.

When your delivery date becomes available they bring up the calendar to allow you to pick from times and dates after their picked date. You should be able to pick a date that works for you. Not sure how many days they allowed you to pick from though.

I was expecting 8-12 weeks for delivery (Catalina Cove plus CC interior) and is turned out to be only 3 weeks after ordering. The paperwork they sent indicated a 10 day hold limit before bad stuff would happen. I texted the SC, explained that I was traveling, and they approved a 20 day hold on the spot.

I was given a delivery date about 3 weeks in advance.

They are holding mine for 7 days while I'm on vacation.
