Order Now or Wait??

They let me know a week after my VIN assignment then the delivery date was 4 weeks out and I could change it.

If it's that big a concern for you and you can't get a straight answer directly from Rivian (nobody on the forum will know for sure), then the safe bet is to simply wait and place your order the day you return (let the test pilots have some more time to work out issues), or even a day or two before returning (assuming you will have some sort of internet access. Why cause a completely avoidable stressful potential issue for yourself just to feel good about hitting the order button.....it's not like your space in line is going to disappear.....

It's a 2 week trip. I'd just put the order in right before leaving. If they move heaven and earth and deliver the vehicle within 7 days, OP will still be back from the trip within the delivery window.

When you do get a delivery date, about how far in advance is it? are you given like a week, or 4 weeks? Just curious

It clearly varies. My son and daughter-in-law had a September/October order window originally, then about four weeks ago they were told one to two weeks. Then they ordered two weeks ago and was supposed to pick it up yesterday, but got bumped to tomorrow. So clearly it just depends. They are about 15 miles from the nearest service center in the San Diego area. (I'm only 4.5 miles from the closes one, and waiting for the end of the year.)

Has anyone received the Order Invitation, and simply declined to reply, or responded with intent to wait? Most folks seem to place their order immediately, some could not (because their desired trim was not available at the time), and a few have posted that they cancelled their reservation. My preference may be to wait until after the new year (pending elective surgery). Is "waiting" a selectable option after receiving the Order Invitation?

Yes. They have stated that once you have the invite you can order at anytime.
