Actually I am not seeing any charging options in Apple Maps. Do you have to turn something on, or change a setting somewhere? I know I have seen/heard of EVs with CarPlay doing this but could never figure it out in my EV6.

The vehicle manufacturer has to enable sharing the data with CarPlay for it to work. I know the Ford Mach-E has this available. Check the Kia app to see if it has it (or check with the Kia forums to see if they have info on it).

I was guessing they were referring to Amazon, which is a real stretch to think Amazon is letting their IP go into the truck.
They are the largest owner of the company, with the most to lose/gain from their success, they aren't just a customer. It's not a stretch by any means. They may be the owner in some possible future scenarios.

CarPlay isn't going to talk to almost any car right now for real time state of charge planning, but it does allow you to use ABRP and PlugShare on your vehicle's screen.

Because pretty much any app on your phone you'd want to use in your car just works with CarPlay. No need for the auto maker to create an ad hoc integration for each app separately.

Thanks for yet another opportunity to take a therapeutic whack at the long dead proverbial horse.

No, no, no. That would be Amazon.
Amazon owns stock but I haven't seen any evidence they're involved in the navigation solution.

Apple maps does but CarPlay does not - CarPlay just mirrors the display. If CarPlay could do it natively it wouldn't need a phone.

So, while I'm being pedantic, I'm also technically correct.

You seem to be in every thread I've been reading the last few days being super obnoxious. What's the point?

There is a whole other story about charging at the Madison Super Walmart, but that’s a separate issue.
What was the issue with the Madison EA station at Walmart? I'm planning on using it on my trip up north on Thursday.

...for one thing there seems to be a lot of EV's needing charging at that location, so we had to wait for an opening. Also, of the 4 EA stations there, only one actually provides 350kw. so if you don't get lucky and find that one, you will be charging for quite some time. Good luck and safe travels.

Thanks! I try to travel during off hours so hopefully it won't be crowded. The Stevens Point Hyundai chargers have me worried the most at this point.

I was pretty shocked and annoyed with Rivian’s navigation on my 500 mile trip back home today. This was my first big trip in 6 months of ownership (well technically 4 since the first 2 months were in the the shop)

First, it couldn’t calculate a route to my destination. It could only plot one course and tell me that I wouldn’t be able to charge (and I know I can make it because that’s the way I came). Apple was smart enough to offer 3 routes home.

The Rivian app constantly would target me charging at EA stations arriving with ~10% battery. Even when there were multiple options on the same route. No way I’m letting myself get that low. One little problem would leave me completely stranded.

Especially given the piss poor integration with EA.I’m unaware whose fault this is, but I stressed for an hour that all 4 EA slots at the dest charger were IN USE only to find they were just UNKNOWN status. The map hides any UNKNOWN status if you select Availability.

you have to zoom in super deep to find the EA chargers, then the map decides to re-orient to cardinal directions and spin the world around on you

It was a hassle. ABRP saved the day, but having to have multiple devices is amateur hour.

Why the F can’t I select a charging station on the route and tell it to re-route to there!? it’ll show the charger with an icon large enough to select, but won’t let you select it. To select it you have to end the trip, let the map zoom in, two finger tap 15 times to zoom out, wait for the entire F-ing map to spin around, select, then Start - ALL WHILE DRIVING!

Garbage!
