She spent an inordinate amount of time complaining that it doesn't make sense as a work truck. Imagine doing a review of a 9 Iron and then spending half of the time complaining that it hits the ball too high and not nearly far enough.
It's to get the clicks.

Wonder why they used "pre-prod" vehicles this late in the game? n Would think they would want to put their best foot forward. Not a huge deal for me...just a curiosity.

I'm thinking these are pretty much production intent vehicles, just not VINned for public sale. This actually happens quite often with new vehicles.

ICE only :(
JRE pulled the Bluetooth speaker out of the front console. In earlier videos wasn't it being pulled out of the back?
I've only ever seen it come out of the front.

One of the videos mentioned that they are "production validation vehicles," essentially they are the last ones that rolled off the line to validate their process prior to starting customer delivery vehicles.

The Bloomberg review is so negative. Anyone else find it odd that it was the only 1 negatively-slanted review out of all 22 reviews posted so far? Pretty easy to not put too much stock into it, IMO.
I thought the same! It also felt a little misguided. My main impressions of the "be careful what you buy" comments:
  • This isn't a work truck. I think we all know it's aimed at the adventure/outdoorsy crowd and not as a construction tool
  • It's expensive compared to the bare-bones F-150 truck. Also, nothing new there. I think everyone expects this to be a luxury vehicle. I don't see Range Rovers compared against Honda Pilots -- different target
  • They didn't reinvent the wheel jack. (And they should have spent the same amount of effort innovating on the jack as the rest of the truck's day-to-day features) They also didn't reinvent the wheel but somehow that wasn't flagged as a negative.
  • Something about the window lining... No snarky comeback from me here :)

All in all, if this is the worst of it, I know I'm going to love this truck

Yep, its almost as if she didn't realize what she was driving. A truck with a 4.5 foot bed isn't trying to be a work truck. I also hate when people compare the price to the Lightning. The base model of the Lightning is $39,900. If you want to compare the Rivian to the Lightning, you would be comparing it to the Lariat with the extended battery, which is going to be $76,600 according to the price sheet that has been going around.

She didn't even make mention of the fact that the fully optioned Lightning is less capable and more expensive than the R1T at around 90k.

The Bloomberg writer is Hannah Elliott. She's a generally obnoxious fairly knowledgeable heroin-chic gadly in the LA car scene for whom only the retro and aged is pure and "cool" - kind of like herself. She wears silver plated razor blades around her neck as jewelry and has a wardrobe of obscure band t-shirts. Her partner is Magnus Walker who is a former fashion designer and retro car collector. He makes self-serious and very pretentious videos on various older cars for Hagerty. Yes he has cool cars, but he looks like a homeless man and he hasn't updated his look in ages. I can assure you that Hannah Elliott has never done a hard day's work in her life and so her focus on trucks as work vehicles is almost as sad as it is trollish. She did point out some problems in her writeup which were perhaps concerning. But surely that will be fixed in production.

I noticed two videos so far where there were rocks on the camp kitchen stove area. I was confused why, and I think I figured it out. I think they were using them to keep pots from sliding off. See picture where one person has bungee cords to hold the handles. I thought the truck self leveled? Maybe the terrain exceeded the leveling ability?
Ugh. I was reconsidering to add the kitchen. Maybe it's not well thought out after all? Sea rails and pot holders are common on boats...this isn't rocket science.
