I’m curious what the percentage is here of those who plan to lease there R2 versus finance or buy there R2?
Right now, torn between what to do

I'll be following as nothing sways my opinions more than a cabal of strangers on the internet- sad, but actually, true.

To be clear, from a purely financial perspective, this lease makes almost zero sense unless the value of a used R2 drops like rocks. In my case, I'll still go with it as I already own 2 high maintenance, out of warranty German SUVs and like the idea of seeing how these play out from a dependability standpoint. I also don't care about Lidar but I do care about resale so there's that aspect to watch. Honestly, if I hadn't just written a check to pay off the mortgage, I'd pay cash and count on these holding their value. If you can't do that, the smart money says finance.

It appears that the Premium edition with minimal upgrades will have a monthly lease payment of more than $1,000. I changed my vote to buy.

Right now the lease offers are terrible for the R2 Performance with Launch Package. I’m hopeful that they’ll improve with the Premium and Standard, but we won’t know until later this year and next year. I think Rivian wants people to buy.

Lease rates are like 10% when you convert the money factor. It'll sell like hotcakes but a lot of people still want to lease and that price is definitely a barrier.

If Rivian provides good lease incentives than lease with turnaround buyout could be a good option.

Doesn’t seem to be happening. If I can get a Standard down to $500 a month financed with a lease trade-in and some money down then I’m in. If not, I’m not sure what I’ll lease while waiting for the R3. The R3 Standard might not be out until late 2029/early 2030, so I’ve got a while.

Maybe there should have been a third option in this poll; Cash, Finance, or Lease.
I was planning to lease, but disovered that in my state,, leasing in unfavorable.
(In Texas, you pay sales tax on the full purchase price if you lease, and then if you buy it out at the end of the lease, you pay sales tax AGAIN on the residual value. Double taxation. No thank you.)
So leasing is out for me.
FInancing a car is something I gave up long ago, once I got to where I could afford to pay cash. At today's interest rates, no thank you. I dislike having debt.
So, I will be paying cash.

I'm not going to lease. As such, I'm going to wait for Gen 3 hardware. I'm conflicted about this as it will take some time for Rivian to deliver on autonomy, but I think waiting a few more months is the better long term play. So I'm out for LE.
