Gen 4 Rivian. G3 owners soon to have same remorse as G1 and G2 owners looking at Lidar. ;-)

My limited understanding is the training from real world miles driven is a significant factor that Rivian is building up on rather quickly as we are driving the vehicles. While Tesla has way more miles, I don't think anyone else does and Rivian also has the benefit of seeing where the Tesla crashes go wrong and setting its systems to avoid the same mistake without getting the brand hit of highly publicized crashes.
I am close to one of the top people making this. We've shared some funny texts like "JUST DRIVE OVER THE FUCKING STICK!" Nvidia is not to be under-estimated, in both dollar might and intellectual capital.
I took over from UHF last night to drive over some crap on the road, so you're welcome. I don't think it would have cared, but I went way out of the lane to position the crap on the road better. Looked like someone lost their tarped load off a trailer or something.

On an Everyday Chris YouTube video where he visited and sat in on the nvidia self driving, they said they are still providing support for Rivian on the backend even when not using their chip and will help support others who would want to automate.

While I really live Nvidia I think Rivian made the right choice designing and building their own chips.

I say this because Nvidia is not focused on automotive as much as they are on AI chips and they keep moving more production in that direction. Imagine if they slow it down more and increase prices and you are stuck using their chips.

This is a win for Rivian to control their own chips and direction they want to go in the future.

MB I think is also doing this because they're the launch partner with Nvidia.
Lucid is also using the Nvidia stack and the Nvidia stack has the ability to generate virtual worlds with edge cases.
I was impressed at how far they've come along from the videos I've seen.. Not Tesla/Waymo level but definitely ahead of Rivian's demo...

Nvidia has cars on the road? Solid state battery is a far bigger prize IMO.

I am more worried about the near-term. Rivian needs a successful R2 launch to fund its bet on autonomy. RJ has been saying there aren’t many good choices when it comes to mid-cost EV besides Tesla Model 3/Y. R2 and Mercedes-Benz CLA electric are going to be one of those. If I am in the market this year for a new EV, I will probably lean towards CLA because its current autonomous driving capabilities are way better than Rivian IMO.

I would wait and see. For sure UHF is better than any current production Mercedes system- when I got my car I checked out the latest and greatest on EQS (except L3 Drive Pilot, which no dealer had and it was super limited regardless) and it was much much worse. Demos are one thing, need to get seat time in production models to get a sense of what is actually shipping and have a first hand opinion from actual experience. I understand that CLA is the new nvidia stack but it also has not shipped- nor does it have anything in common with legacy distronic, so it's a big leap.
