Hello dear Forum members,

I have been following this forum for some time now, and today decided to join. So this is my first post.
It has been 3 years and 4 months since I placed my order for a Rivian R1T.

The only information I have is my delivery window of March / April

I have called / emailed / followed up / asked for escalation / reached out to Rivian employees on LinkedIn / asked a friend who knows some senior VP at Rivian to get more information /

NO LUCK - Can't get a straight answer. It's always the most generic response, which is now doing two things.

ONE - It makes me upset. Yes it does, because they can and should be less vague.
TWO - Should I continue to wait or move on? Will this ever happen.

I'd love to see what do members here think?

Help me - I have options this week to go buy another EV, which are available.

Option 1 - Buy brand new Tesla Model 3 TODAY
Option 2 - Buy brand new VW ID4 TODAY
Option 3 - Keep waiting for this magic to happen from Rivian

Anyone else moved on to another car?
I'm worried if I keep waiting, what if I loose the option for these EVs and Rivian never keeps their promise.

Thanks for help.

Died of old age during the wait
My guess is that people here haven’t moved on - if they did drop their reservation, why would they still come here?

But I would wait at least a couple of weeks if I were you, and I would follow up with CS about needing an immediate guide contact, citing the fact that other Jan/Feb reservations have heard from their guides and are getting vehicles in late March. Wouldn’t you rather know for sure if you will get the truck this Spring before you make the switch?

January-February delivery windows are just now getting information about their vehicles being ready in 4-6 weeks. My guess is that if you are in that window you will hear something in the next couple of weeks because they appear to finally be moving into the delivery window groups.

How exactly are you losing the option for the Tesla and the ID4? Are you under any time constraints or other constraints to replace your vehicle? If not, then wait it out a few more weeks at least.

I'm curious how you're buying a brand new Model 3 today?

As a random thought: I am also generally befuddled by folks who would move from an R1T to a Model 3 or ID.4 - why did you want the R1T in the first place if you would be satisfied with a car cost less that isn't a truck?

Sevengroove - Those two vehicles are available and someone else could buy them. That's how I will loose the option. The two dealers in question will not wait for me for several weeks. Also, with high demand of EVs and supply chain issues. I'm formulating the question, whether I should buy what I can today, or wait for something that may never happen.

mgc0216 - I can understand your befuddling. My choice is trying to get this R1T truck, but more important choice for me is getting a nice EV with decent range.

Sorry, I'm in a bit of a mood this morning....

Don't make life decisions based on FOMO. Your purchasing decision appears to be influenced more by emotion than logic (insert random Spock meme here). If the Rivian is what you want (it doesn't appear that you need it, an issue others have already addressed), put on your big boy pants and learn to be patient. The Rivian will happen.

Those are all completely different vehicles…..Id.4, model 3 and R1T. Also, what grades are you looking at for each vehicle? The RWD id.4 is SLOW in comparison to a LR M3 and R1T. It really depends what you want and if you don’t care about interior quality, cabin quietness, etc….then just get the vw or Tesla.

YES! Seriously. Is this "I'll buy any vehicle as long as it's an EV" thing a characteristic of the EV buyer pool? I don't think I've ever talked to someone who's in the market for a Tacoma who says, "Ya know, I was also considering a CR-V or maybe an A3."

Befuddling is definitely the right word. I know OP addressed this, but I couldn't help throwing my $0.02 in.

The Rivian thing is happening, but I can sympathize - 3+ years of waiting would likely sow seeds of doubt in my mind too. Hang in there.

These days you can buy a car today and sell it tomorrow without losing anything. You might even make money.
be careful on what you buy if you do buy something.
Bought a Raptor 2-3 months ago and I can sell it today for the price I paid and sales tax with 7k miles on it.
That being said March/April is around the corner so you might just wanna wait another couple months (maybe more like 4 or 5) and get your Rivian.
I have a model 3 Performance and love it. Won’t take me off-road though.

You have already paid for Rivian by waiting. Loosing that wait time just to end up with a compromise vehicle may be a loss. If Tesla charging network or ID4 price is a factor, that is a different story but if you feel like you are making a compromise by taking one of those options wait. That is knowing that even after purchase you may have some frustration with Rivian. It may take them another 5-10 years before they can have a smooth operation in all aspects of their business.

Here's a hot take that many on here won't enjoy but I fully believe..

If you don't need a truck or a large SUV, you're better off getting a different EV. The benefit of the R1T/R1S are their size and off roading capability. If you aren't going to use those, you'll get more usability/comfort in a different EV. It sounds like you don't need those two things, so grab up a Model 3 or ID4.

You call this a hot take - but I'd call it logic.

They're starting to deliver to external customers in the Seattle area. I'd advise patience. The dealer might have a Model 3 today that sells tomorrow, and then they might have another Model 3 on the lot 3 days later. You just don't know. It's a gamble either way, but if you've waited this long, why throw it all away at the 2 yard line unless you absolutely cannot survive one more day without a vehicle/another vehicle.

That said, I'll happily move up one slot in line if you want to bail :)
