My gen 1 22 r1t had the front subframe replaced, dampers, half shafts and hubs and jounce lines, which all helped with both the noise and feel of the suspension. Then I drove a 26 gen 2 and realized how much better (smoother, less noisy) the suspension was in that vehicle. I traded in my qm for a new qm.

My very early VIN gen 1 R1T is currently at a SC for the 2nd time (different location than first attempt) trying to fix these loud clunks. The tech during the test drive said these are just normal sounds for this type of suspension but that they will still check the subframe. I mentioned half shafts as well but he didn't say they'll check those. Jounce lines and front dampers were replaced in August and that did not fix the sounds despite those claims after the first SC visit.

We shall see. Been there since Monday with the main issue being that driver assist no longer works. Was initially told it would be same day repair, then a few days once I dropped it off. The last update I got Thursday was "more diagnostics are needed". I know they are probably busy and my issues are not what I would consider high priority but it sucks having been given expectations and then feeling like I'm just getting the runaround when I reach out for a status.

Driving this Jeep rental feels like I have stepped back in time 10 years but makes me appreciate the R1T that much more. Patience!

If anyone has any other suggestions on what I can have them check while the truck is already there, let me know!

I agree with you on this. I have a Gen 1 and a Gen 2. The Gen 1 sounds like things are going to rattle off and the Gen 2 is as quiet as can be. Too bad, the Gen 2 is my significant other’s. I told her, mine’s going on the chopping block when the time comes for a new qm as well. Can’t wait for that moment. However, the Gen 1 sound system is much better than the Gen 2 system.

I just had my front dampers and jounce lines replaced under warranty
It was making a similar noise but more pronounced at slow speeds, going around corners, where there are bumps. But when I brought it in for the noise to the SC the advisor who drove with me in the truck heard it and said he thinks he knows just what it is. They diagnosed it the next day.
if you have this noise and it is annoying you I would try a different SC and see what they say.
good luck
Care to share the repair order details?

I bought my Gen1 R1T used, and it did that from the day I took possession of it. I had a mobile service guy come out and listen to it, and it he said it's the "hydraulic dampers", so I have an appointment with a SC to get them serviced. FWIW, I also had a Tesla Model S with air suspension make that noise when it was brand new. I took it in and the tech said "I know exactly what that is" and he had it fixed in about an hour.

If the Rivian SC can't figure this one out, I'm going to place a few microphones around the front of the truck and use relative amplitudes of the sound to home in on the location of the sound and then stick a GoPro in there to actually catch the source.

I have an early Gen1 build with no suspension work other than a recently replaced rear damper that was leaking, and I don’t experience any noises like that. The only issue I notice is a very slight “rocks in a can” rattle from the front left wheel when driving over broken pavement at lower speeds.
That's my favorite noise... It drove me nuts 1 month into ownership.

I'm almost certain that noise is actually the plastic components under the hood around the frunk perimeter. if you lightly tap them with your finger it makes a similar noise.

Oh no, don't tell me that :( I'm due to get my halfshafts replaced in six weeks (ugh service timelines are so long).
For some it’s the fix.

Welp, just traded in the Rivian. I'm out. Couldn't handle the clunk, rattles, and clicks. I ended up getting a BMW and it's *night & day* in quality. Maybe Rivian will figure it out in the R2, but I never had a good experience with mine.
