Has anyone seen any reports on how the Gen 2 wheel/tire combos perform on Gen 1 vehicles?

I'm planning ahead for when it's time to replace my tires, and am considering moving from the 21" wheel to either the 22" Range wheel & tires or the 20" & All-Seasons. At the minimum, we'd most likely not get the OEM Pirellis for the 21" wheel...

I'm leaning that way, but there's also a part of me that worries the non-OEM tires won't play nice with range estimates in the vehicle due to different weights, so I'm hedging my bets.

I'll be sure to dive into the threads on the Michelin tires that are here for more info...

I haven't measured mine precisely, but the Defender's seem to be close enough to the original tires for range.

I'm sure it's different when measured closely, but I've never found a situation where I was running materially lower on charge than expected.

The OEM tires specifically? Otherwise not sure what you mean by Gen2 tires.

Also the OEM wheels (the Range wheel was never a Gen 1 option).

They do fine for me…I also don’t sweat range FWIW

Wife and I do enough towing that having somewhat accurate range estimates is pretty important.

I have the 20" ATs on my truck. Last summer I switched to the GoodYear Territory OEM ATs and I've liked them. Compared to the Pirelli's, I'm getting about 10% better efficiency = about 2.15 in 5500 miles of driving.

I think "will it work" wise, no issues, most of the Gen2 wheels were options for Gen1 in the first place.

Will the Gen2 range wheels be better than the Gen1 21" wheels? I think they'll probably be similar but worse. My understanding is that the standard wheels/tires are really optimized more for looks, and consumers' desire for large, wide wheels, than for true maximum range.

The best wheels for range are going to smaller to minimize rolling weight, and narrow to reduce friction from contact patch. But that would look kinda silly on a truck.

Maybe use tire guide at riviantrackr to compare tire specs. Pay particular attention to UTQG; especially if you tow often. As for efficiency vs aftermarket AS for 20s, I don’t think there is a definitive answer. User experiences are also somewhat anecdotal (too many factors and nuances involved to draw conclusions). What you will gain is a more compliant ride, more tire options and potentially at lower replacement cost.

I would probably not pick the factory Goodyear “All Season” package, since you tow. The tire is affordable. But UTQG of 580. They will probably not last to see 25000 mi.

The Range’s Scorpion MS probably won’t last either. UTQG of 500.

I deviated from OEM spec by a lot, on purpose, and am seeing dead-on estimates. Also weight is the most minimal factor on EV range unless you're using the friction brakes. Tire friction would be much more important.

I have the Nitto Grappler in a 116 load, not 126 (I think) like OEM.

I should have also specified, range is good when running empty, with a bed load that takes 20% off range (seat of the pants estimate), and when towing a 17' full height travel trailer.
