Well it looks like at least 10% of us are going to be wrong. Fingers crossed they launch it first thing in Q2.

I received this on Friday:

Hi Carlos,

Great choice to wait. It's synced up with the release of the Quad will have the NACS port as well. Q2 is the word and I'll put you on my list to reach out when it's released!

My guess is that we we config about 6-8 weeks prior ..maybe longer…complete guess.

Based on recent posts by RJ they appear to be doing cold weather testing in Alaska.

To my knowledge all that folks have been able to do at this point is place a reservation. No config invites tells me we are at least 6 - 8 weeks out. Rivian likes surprises though so it’s really difficult to speculate.

I saw the RJ post of the drifting white R1. I was guessing this was probably a quad but could not tell from the clip. that was a cool video. I hope that they can get them out faster then 6-8. or maybe they will have some built in advance.

My understanding they are releasing both Quad and the native NACS vehicles the same time.

I'm curious if they'll offer a retrofit in the future. At this point I don't really care, as I will be using adapters fairly frequently either way. But once infrastructure transitions a little more could be a good option

Personally I would rather the Charge port not change so I dont need to use an adapter at home every single day with my current charger over the hand full of times per year that I might charge in the wild.

Sigh of relief when my tri-motor's charge port opened up to a CCS port this morning.

Congrats on the New Tri motor!

I see that you took delivery of a Tri despite having a quad on order for quite some time. Was this move made becase you feel the G2Q is still more than a few months out? Whats your opinion on waiting for the G2Q vs taking advantage of the deal on the Tri before then end of the month? Obviously you liked the Tri but was this in addition to or taking the place of the Quad you preordered?

You seem to be even more involved with the Rivian community than I am so any guidance, insite or even speculation you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Currently considering a Tri here too…..wife wants more range but refuses to accept less power than her gen 1 quad. Says 1025 HP is “too much” 🤦🏻‍♂️

Tri is definitely faster than an OG quad.

Quad will probably end up being more than 1025 hp. I'm honestly not sure who Rivian's customer is for them. Besides people who spent too much time watching Home Improvement when they were little.

Agree! You can really feel the extra torque on Tri. I think we’ve become so fixated on horsepower that we really don’t consider that both numbers are critically important the way I always try to explain it to people is that torque is the power and horsepower is how quickly the power can be put to use.

so with try motor, you have an 850 hp which is very comparable to the GEN one quad only about 15 more horses. But do you have over 200 additional foot pounds of torque on GEN 2 Tri.

I really noticed a lot more power above 30 on the tri.

Are you sure they didn't remap the throttle to make it feel that way? If you take launch mode of the G2 out of the picture, run them both in Sport, they run very similar times 0-60. If you run 45-65 mph, the G1 Tri might be a tenth of a second quicker which isn't huge.

That is about the same improvement on the 50-70 times as well. Best run against best run of 50-70 the Tri was 0.09 seconds quicker. Average run and the Tri was .13 seconds quicker. With the caveat that Tri was at a high SoC (state of charge).

So maybe it feels significantly quicker, but the times I captured with a Dragy show it isn't huge and the biggest difference (for the speed ranges I ran) were 0-60 and using launch mode. In Sport mode they were very close with maybe the Tri being just a touch quicker.

In AP mode, I didn't do as many runs but they were pretty close at almost any speed range and sometimes the G1 quad was quicker.

The Tri is a bit quicker depending on the scenario but honestly, not enough that I'd upgrade just on speed alone. I'd love to see a G1 quad with launch mode and see how it runs by comparison.

If I wanted a significant performance upgrade from a G1 quad, it looks like the G2 quad is really the only way to go unless you want to use launch mode every time.
