That's a great color but I'd say to many miles. I've seen some with 10K miles for $60-62K
I am kinda feeling it is too many miles.

Unfortunately, I spent last night reading tons of posts about Rivian Service Centers and the ungodly wait times for repairs. It really has me second guessing whether an R1T is even the vehicle for me as I commute about 20,000 miles a year. First and foremost I need a reliable commuter.

As much as I hate the ceo, perhaps keeping my Model Y is the best choice for my commute right now.

I am at 59K miles on a Launch addition. Absolutely no issues and I love the Rivian. I have recently driven so many other options and just nothing comes close. I just decided I can’t part with it. Not a hickup except the 12 volt battery replacement thus far. I am worried about the tank in value at 60K miles, but at that point I would run the wheels off. I suspect these have incredible longevity and would be happy to contribute to the research.

As much as I love driving my R1T I bought a commuter to keep miles off of it… 20k is a lot per year when more affordable vehicles are just as capable of commuting.

"Only thing that has me hesitant is the mileage, 39,000 miles. Now I am coming from a Tesla Model Y so I know the mileage of a used EV is nothing like the wear similar miles would have on an ICE vehicle. I guess I am just looking for a bit of reassurance from current R1T owners that my purchase is a smart one."

My 2022 R1T has 37,500 miles on it. The only real problems I have had is the powered tonneau cover (I am waiting to have it repaired or upgraded - under warranty). I will say that I expect the 12V batteries (there are two of them in a 2022) are likely to fail soon, which is $700 or $800 to replace (the warranty on the 12V batteries is only 36 month or 36,000 miles). However, I have just ordered a NOCO battery charger/desulphator, which could extend the life of the 12V batteries significantly - wish I had done it sooner. As a bonus, using the charger/desulphator on the 12V batteries should reduce the vampire drain on the HV battery (caused partially by the truck having to wake up to recharge the 12V batteries).

P.S. Check the condition of the tires - that's a sizable expense if it needs new tires. At that mileage, it is likely that they have been replaced (at least once). I have 37,500 on my original tires, but they are due to be replaced.

Unfortunately don’t have room to have a commuter car in addition to the Rivian.

I agree with your concern with the service delays and the inference of the lack of Riv SCs. Not to excuse Riv, they are relatively a new company. And with the current state of our Nation possibly hesitant with their future plans.

One needs to calculate how much risk is acceptable before buying a Riv vehicle.

If I were looking to buy a Riv I would buy that CY T, knowing I would drive it, while also “babying it”, until I could make some dinero.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of posters with issues have joined the forum looking for insight/help with their issue while awaiting a service appointment. I think a great number of owners have no significant issues and they are often resolved by Rivian pretty well. There’s certainly outliers to this, and you’ll find most of those posted here for obvious reason. But you won’t see the thousands of owners posting regularly about how nothing much is actually going on with a vehicle they really enjoy.

I felt like it was a big risk, but after spending time on here, I felt okay enough that I now have two Rivians as our only vehicles. They’re just so much better to drive and have great utility compared to most anything out there.

This one has very reasonable mileage, and as a quad will have that beefy 175k battery and drivetrain warranty, making used quads a generally solid investment, and why I got one for our used S over a dual.

This is what matters the most-how you feel. That R1 could go a million miles without any issues but you look like you have reservations and if the Y suites your bill-keep it. All the best.

If you love the Yellow more than lower miles, the choice is easy. Get the CarMax warranty—no question. As Rivian’s top direct reseller, CarMax worked out a great deal with Rivian, making their warranty a steal.

My R1T has 56,700 miles (original owner) and has been nearly flawless. Our 2023 R1S? Not a single issue. I love my truck—every bit of it! I looked at Gen2, but for the user, it's not a major upgrade—though it is for Rivian.

I've never bought an extended warranty before, despite owning multiple 911TTs and other unique cars. But Rivian repairs are costly, so I did my research. I chose Xcelerate Auto (X-Care) after speaking with two Rivian owners and several Tesla owners.

I bought it before 60K miles, assuming prices would spike once people actually started using it (lol). I plan on keeping my R1T until a true generational change comes (if) for the R1 with significant better battery technology and overall enhancements.

This is technically a somewhat rare vehicle: they discontinued Forest Edge with Compass Yellow before they discontinued Compass Yellow.

Consider your proximity to a Rivian service center (how far away is the closest one?) Also, contact Rivian to see how much an additional warranty would be and compare the difference to CarMax!

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I decided to wait for another truck. While this one is very cool due to the rare color combo, it has a bit too much wear for me.

The bed liner was really chewed up along the edge and there were some small dents along the top of the bed that shows this thing did some hauling. A small chip in the windshield as well. Also, through some detective work and I found the owner of this truck on this forum and read all his posts regarding this truck. Turns out the truck was hit in the front headlight, and you could see the hood on that side doesn’t quite sit flush with the fender. Along with the 39,000 miles just more wear than I want in a vehicle.

Going to look for a lower mileage example.

$39k is nothing on the R1T. I have $35k and it runs flawlessly and you'll still have the comprehensive warranty for 20k more miles
