If you remove the undershield, do you still get the silver piece in the front bumper (that's directly below the hooks)?
I received this reply yesterday, from a CS follow up email two hours before they changed pricing and configurations... So if may or may not still be helpful. I don't believe any folks @ Rivian know what is going on.

"I was able to confirm the silver skid plate IS part of the Off-road Upgrade. Our configurator needs to be updated to reflect the subtle change in image displayed between the 2 packages. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have informed our development team to update this image."

A fine question. I personally want the full size spare so much it's what keeps me from wandering to the R1S...
Just out of curiosity. What are your reasons for wanting the full-size spare so badly?

Traversing the Sierra Nevadas would make me nervous without it, that's all. I enjoy "off the beaten path" but won't be doing any rock crawling, thus no need for the reinforced underbody (I hope).

Anecdotally, my Teslas are absolute flat tire magnets. The heavy weight combined with thin sidewall makes them super prone to tire damage. (And Seattle roads usually have some mix of construction debris and trash/damage/whatever lying around). I've replaced 4-5 tires on my Teslas in three years, none from anything more exciting than local paved roads.

EVs generally need a flatbad tow and Rivian will have limited parts availability for a while. And for me, the R1T will be off-road a lot, and out of cell range for a lot of that time. And on roads that flatbed trucks may not even be able to access for some of that time. So a spare tire could easily be the difference between an expensive, difficult extraction and hours or days stranded, versus a quick repair in the field.

From experience stranding a truck deep in the mountains for two weeks because tow trucks wouldn't attempt the mountain roads, I'll take the spare.

I'm similar to these folks. Where I go is about 2 hours away from the closest "large" city (40k population). A flat in the forest would not be fun without a spare. Back in the 90's our Taurus got a flat the day before we were supposed to go home and it took an additional day to get a replacement.

Free tow hooks! Yea! Prob $25 of parts that simplifies production of all vehicles thus reducing cost! They HAD to throw some sort of bone, albeit a tiny one. I’m actually glad to get these and I would’ve had no use for the reinforced under body shield and couldn’t justify the cost.

1) It's a $75k+ vehicle. NO vehicle costing this much should ever be without a full sized spare (EV or whatnot).
2) Their demographic is Adventurous Lifestyle people. Does anyone going off-road and/or "adventuring" want to get caught flat without a full sized spare? Makes no sense to not offer it.

On an unrelated note: I do not know if this was true yesterday as today was the first time I tried to configure a R1S post the price changes, I did notice that on the Adventure Package trim, the tow hooks come included.

That is new and for those who had the additional shielding just for the tow hooks can get 2k back. I dropped it on my configuration, dropped the wall charger as well.

What wall charger are you guys looking at?
Not sure yet, I do not need one, I have an old one at my primary residence, was going to replace that with the Rivian and take the old one to my other place. I’ll probably just use the portable charger for now until I find something else I like.

At 500 for a 48 amp charger it was a good deal, at 750 there are options.

After spending hours on this forum, I decided to take a look at my configuration. I have a reservation for a Launch Edition. I had the off-road package selected. The only reason I selected the off-road package was for the tow hooks. Don't think I will ever need the additional shielding.

After logging into my account this morning. I first noticed the lovely price increase and then I noticed they now have separated the off-road package. "Tow Hooks" and "Reinforced underbody shield."

Has anyone with a Launch Edition removed the Reinforced underbody shield from there build? I would like to remove it, but I don't want to lose my Launch Edition status.
Removed. Does not affect LE status.
