Hello! Just pick up a sky blue Tri-max last week. Absolutely amazing machine! I was hoping for a addition of PLEX amp in to music options (like Spotify etc). I had tired the "cast" option, but feel this is dangerous because it forces you to look at phone. In a perfect scenario, i would be able to access my plex server via Connect+ and could skip, play, etc using the Rivian UI and hand controls. I came from a volvo C40 and apple carplay. I definitely don't really care about apple carplay specifically, but would like the functionally of plex amp on Rivian.

I am just amazed daily driving to work. Looking forward to being part of this community.

Maybe there is a work around I'm not aware of?

Maybe oversimplifying, but just connecting your phone to Bluetooth and playing the Plex app from there? That will give you full steering wheel controls and everything. If your phone is connected to the hotspot then you will be using your connect + data

Thank you for response! Yeah, i was hoping i could change artists, tracts etc via rivian ui. Currently, if i need to change/search a different artist, i need to search via phone. Is there any functional difference between running Plex amp music via Bluetooth or "casting"? I'm getting older and my reaction time isn't what it was. Using the big screen would be significantly easier/quicker for me then using my phone. Much like it was in the Volvo. In a perfect situation, i could have the same UI as the IPAD or phone, but running on the rivian.

Rivian needs to add USB audio before doing anything with Plex. Amazed you can't play content from a USB drive.

That is a good point. I would be happy with that. I have a HD installed for the gear guard. It would be nice if that could double as music/movie storage.

I agree with the problem statement.

Having a decent way to play the audio I own is the mole-hill I will die on. I love the truck. Rivian is great. But feeling pushed into using streaming services that I fundamentally despise is rage-inducing for me.

I wouldn't list Plex as my preferred solution, as sometimes I want music where the data doesn't stream. But right now I just want a solution.

I think the only option you have for playing your own media is via bluetooth on your phone using the app of your choice. Not particularly elegant. It's the equivalent of a cassette adapter these days.

I have been a Plex user for over a decade, but I doubt Rivian will add support for it. There are just too few of us. I honestly wouldn't even use it myself.

Is the reason for not enabling USB music solely to force streaming? Or am i just old and USB music no longer a thing. lol I would think for such an advanced truck, something like enabling PLEX or USB music would be simple. But then again i know nothing about software. I just figure if my 10 year old chevy could do it, rivian could.

The only real difference is Bluetooth connects automatically and you can use it while driving, casting only works while parked

I run a Plex server on my home computer and stream my music to my car through Alexa. It takes a bit of work to set up and maintain. I would rather have USB audio.

I just looked at Plex as a possible solution to other things I'm working on in terms of media.

It looks like you can use Plex with Alexa. This should allow you to control it from the truck with voice commands. I've done this with Pandora.

Give it a try and let us know how it works. I might be setting up Plex myself if this works.

I keep some Plex playlists synced to my phone for the times when there's no cell service - to often IMO - and play via BT. I really wish they would enable USB at least for the HDD and have some basic navigation UI to pick playlists or artists.

You know what would solve this? And also simultaneously add support for every other less than super common audio & podcast service, mapping tool, and niche "apps" (things like fast food ordering, weather, parking finder, and and on) that people want?

I too use PLEX - I’d prefer USB but plex works well enough and sounds good enough and does a great job when there isn’t connectivity (like the 15 min in either direction from my home.)

would be awesome to have nativity but for real, I just shuffle my 45k library…
