These were all on my list as well, but I went with an Emporia based on the State of Charge youtube channel. It was one of their top choices 2 years in a row. Had it hardwired to a 60A and it's been excellent so far.

First, check with your utility if any EV incentives are tied to the charger. It’s not super common, but I found out too late that my utility (XCEL Colorado) would give me $50/yr if I charged off-peak, and verified this with one of their pre-approved WiFi connected chargers.

Just go with a simple dumb charger if that’s not applicable to you. I have a Grizzl-e unit and it works fine. No better or worse than others.

I've had the grizzl-e classic a little over 3 years and it's been solid.

Thanks for the responses.
I'm leaning toward the Grizzl-E Classic. Attractive price, seems to be well-regarded and made in North America. The Tesla charger probably gets the best reviews and obviously more than a few folks on this forum have had good success with it. The price is a bit of a turnoff however.
You might want to look at buying direct. It comes from Canada, same price, no tax.

I just love everything about the Autel I have.

Off the top of my head:
- great price, often on sale at Amazon
-48 amp hardwired connection with quality components
- remote holster
- flexible cord in cold weather that is 18ft
- great app that tracks costs, allows locking can share via app or card access to friends family Airbnb etc (I don't use this) , scheduling, etc
- quality company in auto biz for long time
- all weather with 6 rating in case I wanted to mount it outdoors
- can share/coordinate loads with other units for multiple EV charging on same circuit

I installed it myself and it is rock solid, never one peep from weekly use for a year now.

Here is my install: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...2-home-charger-installs-here.7940/post-212389

I agree you should go hard wired and not get a 14-50.

I'm partial to the Tesla wall connector because of the power sharing. I was able to expand my setup with a second charger when my wife got her R1S.

Here is my setup.

I've used the mobile adapter on a 30a connector for three years and never needed more. I wouldn't waste the money, and almost nobody needs a full-power hardwired adapter at home. It would be a pretty extreme use case.

+1 Enthusiastic yes for the Grizzl-E! I'm very happy with mine. It's a great value and just works. It's also very solidly built. Mine is installed outside and I've had no issues, in heavy snow, rain, or with temperatures down to -20°F.

I don't think you need a "smart" charger if the only EVs you own are Rivians. It's easy to set the vehicle for a home charging schedule if needed, and the app has a full charging summary for the vehicle.

I bought direct from the company and service/shipping were top class.

Have 2 of the Autels. They're great and reliable. The RF card is great to have at my business (the Rivian card key works). I also like the downloadable records so I can write off charging with my business.
I got a Grizzl-E classic off the classifieds here for pretty cheap. It's installed outside and works flawlessly. No bells or whistles. It just charges reliably.

One important step I need to take before my R1T is delivered is setting up charging at my house. It seems to makes sense to go with an EVSE rather than a simple 14-50 receptacle, and I think I'll be fine with 40 amps.

There are any number of choices in EVSE's and quite a few of the lower-priced units seem to get good reviews. I've tentatively selected the following, three of which are on sale for at least the next several days. Would very much appreciate any feedback on the selections from the folks on this forum.
  1. Wallbox Pulsar Plus Lv 2 EV Smart Charger ($450 - Costco on-line sale through 5/31)
  2. JuiceBox 40 Amp Electric Vehicle Charging Station ($400 - Costco on-line sale through 5/29)
  3. Grizzl-E Classic - ($350 - Amazon)
  4. Autel Home Level 2 EV Charger ($400 - Amazon limited-time sale)
Emporia. Good Warranty, Good Price. Can be set up to 48amps if installed as Direct Wire. I spent a lot of time looking into this and kept coming back to this one. It starts at $399. You can go higher if you add sensors to monitor other items in the house.

I concur. Got mine about 8 months ago. Never had to mess with it since. Friend has had similar experience.
Another vote for Emporia and the recommendation from Tom on State of Charge (youtube). I installed my Emporia EVSE in May 2023. I have not had any issues with it. I am using a nema 14-50 plug. I could have hardwired it for 11khw, but the 9kwh is fine for me. I was worried about moving. But I am not leaving my house. lol

I have not connect or benefit from this but Emporia sent me this discount code.

"emporia5percent"

I believe you have to buy it from their website NOT Amazon.
