Hi Everyone,
I’m looking to pull the trigger and sign up for the RS1. I wanted to see if some owners can answer some question.
- I live in NJ and haven’t even test drove a car yet. I did sign up for e-mails To let me know they are in my area.
- What service is there? Has anyone experienced any issues? If they need to take your car do they supply a loaner?
- Charging, does Rivian offer free charging? Can you supercharge the car? If you were traveling and needed say 100 miles to get home, how long would that take?
- Dual-motor vs quad-motor. I don‘t intend to do any off roading, I just need AWD for the NJ winters. Is it worth the $6000 for the quad?
- I like the captain seats and have seen people talk about them, has anyone seen this option or are they close?
- Trade-in, did Rivian do a trade-in and was it a fair price?
- Range, is it pretty accurate? Does anything affect it?
- If I go to the airport and plug in the car and I am gone for week, does it do any damage since it is plugged in for so long?
- How is Rivian’s charging fleet? Do they have a lot?
Any other advice? I know I can ask the Rivian rep some of these question but I wanted owners opinions.
Thanks
Sean

Welcome to the Forum, Many of your questions are answered within the threads here or on Rivian.com. Exploring is the best way to learn and narrow down questions to those that havent been discussed. Take Care.

There have been no R1S (it's not RS1) deliveries to customers so there will be no feedback specific to the R1S. You can read the information here on the R1T, R1S is expected be very similar.

-Don't know about the service center in NJ, but it took almost a month to get my truck in for stuff that was mostly inconsequential. They initially expected me to drop the vehicle off and get a rental through enterprise, no loaners available. I told them if they pick the truck up, that I wouldn't need either, and they arranged that.
-Rivian Adventure Network, I believe is supposed to be free for Rivian Members, but I don't know of any CCS stations that are live yet. As of now, you can't use Tesla Superchargers at all, but places like Electrify America work great. 100 miles is probably 15 minutes under optimal conditions.
-Dual motor should be fine for the vast majority of people, but it doesn't exist yet, and won't until 2024 some time. If you want a car in the next year, you'll have to pay for the higher end options.
-I don't think captain seats will ever exist in the R1S.
-Trade in was well below market rate for my vehicle and I opted not to do it.
-Range is probably pretty accurate if you can keep the pedal off the floor. I can't.
-Plugged in is better, right now Rivian is having issues with vampire drain, but that might get better in the next OTA that's due any day now.
-What is a charging fleet?

Thanks Gil, Thanks Brian. I’ve done searches but it gets confusing. Is there a FAQ thread somewhere that I am missing? I’ve been on Rivian.com but I wanted owners options.

Generally I like to start the car buying process by knowing how to spell the car I’m buying. Then I like to do some research to commonly available questions.

YaMa, if you don’t like it you don’t need to respond. Also, I transposed the letters and number and didn‘t realize it until it was pointed out so relax!!!!

The R1S isn't available yet, they haven't delivered any to customers anyway. The word is that soon they will start rolling off the production line and into customer's hands but so far we haven't seen any. The only ones out there are either test mules or the two that were delivered to the top brass at Rivian. Everything about the R1S is similar to the R1T though so you could look through and read owner threads on the truck to get a feel for what the R1S experience will be like.

The dual motor is AWD, like the quad motor. Rivian is developing the dual motor to cut costs but it will still be AWD.

I placed my order back in November of 2021 and my expected delivery is Q3 of 2023. I'm not sure I can wait that long so I may look into getting another ICE vehicle until Rivian can fulfill my order. Since you haven't placed your order yet I wouldn't expect an R1S delivery until 2024 due to all the other reservation holders who are ahead of you in the cue.

I get that you are just being sarcastic, but your post really makes you sound like a tool.

Try being nicer.

Julian,
Thanks! I expect the delay and can live with what I have until delivery. Are you just going to buy it without test driving?

Kenny - Thanks! I made a mistake posting

Oh bless your heart.

You basically jumped into the forum and asked a BUNCH of questions that are readily answered if you spent a modicum of time doing some background reading. And, you presented it with this sense of urgency forgetting that even if you put a (fully refundable) deposit down you would likely have a couple years to learn answer to these (again) incredibly common questions.

This is a GREAT community with really helpful people. People take a lot of time out of their lives to provide information, even going so far as to meet other forum members and let them drive their trucks. But your post came of super entitled and lazy, IMHO. But, to me, it's a give and take. We are not Rivian customer service (clearly because we know more than they do most of the time), and don't exist to answer questions for folks who can't be bothered to do some work on their own.

And, yes I could just ignore it, but I'm salty this morning and after seeing your reply here I chose to respond.
