Not going to lie. The Rivian charger does need a lip like the Tesla charger to wrap the charging cord around. It seems like the cord would slip off the Rivian one pretty easily. Especially if the cord is twisted or stiffer in cold temps.
The top of the Rivian Wall Connector naturally creates a slope for the cable to rest.

Yea thats what I'm thinking but I have no experience with these. Can someone advise if I should cancel my $500 Rivian charger from my config and get this Tesla one?
When is $550 cheaper then $500?

I'm referring to does it charge faster than Rivian one? Does it have better functionality?

If you've go the old price on your Rivian charger then keep that. Who do you want to give your money to: Elon or RJ?
Whoever offers a faster, more cost-effective, and full-featured charging experience ;-)

48amp is 48amp. And it all comes down to preferences.

Why not just get an Emporia energy, generic and I think made in USA. Or an openevse kit or product...There's more than you can shake a stick at but some people are stuck on "Brand". For me it's where made, functionality, cost...and plenty of reviews have highlighted the differences in cable and plug qualities - for me the Rivian portable connector has the cheapest feeling plug...don't know how the L2 charger gear compares to the portable...but $800?

The debate for someone like me with both a Model Y and R1T at home that currently share a Gen 3 WC is adding this J1772 WC for $550, or another Gen 3 WC for $400 and continuing to use the Lectron adapter I have. The adapter is a sunk cost at this point so not sure the $150 surcharge is worth it to go adapter-free unless the J1772 WC somehow does a better job of charging?

But then I assume if there is a Rivian app to Rivian wall charger functionality, we wouldn't have that
Curious what would you want to control on the charger directly via an app? Charge scheduling and limits are set in the vehicle, after all.

Asking b/c I can't think of what I'd use it for, but you may have a good idea. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Funny, just put a new Tesla HPWC in to replace our Gen 2 about 3 weeks ago. Paid $400, and use the HPWC with a J1772 adapter (that I carry on the T at all times just in case) and it works like a champ. But this one is $599 cause it has the 1772 handle vs Tesla handle. Same functionality.

Me I'm glad I bought the $400 version and use the adapter I have, almost 40% cheaper.

Until J1772 connectors become more ubiquitous, I'd recommend everyone carry a Tesla to 1772 adpter just in case - In my neck of the woods Tesla connectors far outweight 1772 connectors, so I'm never left hangin so to speak.
A lot of hotels and such still have Tesla destination chargers, too. An adapter is a great idea to have with you at all times for L2 charging - whether you drive a Tesla or non-Tesla EV.

For the $150 savings you could get another adapter to keep in a vehicle... just saying.

Nope - that's opposite. I'm referring to an adapter that takes in a Tesla Connector and converts it to a J1772 that you plug into a Rivian.
This:

That way If we're ever out and I run low on juice and they only have Tesla HPWCs around - I have this in my frunk/door.

Edit: punctuation.
That's the one I use - in black, so it blends in better. Best one on the market for high amperage and compact design!

I use my charger to set TOU windows and scheduling, not the Tesla, will do the same when I get the R1S. I use the App to control charging rate, to start (if I want to override TOU) or stop charging.

It is just another way to control the charging that way regardless of what house I charge at the settings are optimized.

Is that for the Tesla EVSE? I haven't seen those options in the app. How are you doing it?
