The blue building on the other side of the street would have been a better choice.

That blue building is basically a glorified aluminum storage shed. It'll be torn down before anything new goes in there.

I don't really have much reason to go to the Space, but I do find myself at the brewery a few doors north (Bierstadt) or one of the many others in the neighborhood from time to time. The Space probably belongs in Cherry Creek, honestly.

COS service center is officially open. Great news for those of you down south, and should hopefully ease some of the pressure on the Denver SC for both service and new vehicle prep.

The space looks nice. Smaller and not as posh as Denver, but totally fine if you need to wait around for awhile.

Hi there,
Congrats on your new Rivian. I just received my R1S last Saturday as well. If you signed the power of attorney while picking up the car at Denver location, Rivian will send you the plate to your mail address on file. I guess you will have to apply/exchange for a vanity plate (black plate) after that.

I was supposed to get my plates, but they never arrived and I had to call the DMV who told me they had all my information on file and I could come by, register, and pick up my plates. YMMV.

I just got back from the Colorado Springs DMV. Here's how it worked in my case:
- Picked up the vehicle in Denver on 12 Sep where I signed the power of attorney.
- Left Denver with a temp tag (only 1 temp tag required in Colorado)
- Received the Colorado DMV post card stating registration was ready on Sep 28..
- Received the title in the mail on Sep 29.
- Went to DMV today to get permanent registration, plates, and Colorado EV windshield sticker. I paid for the state park pass at the same time (approx $29). I could have walked out with generic green and white plates, but I requested military plates. They will be mailed directly to my house in 4 to 6 weeks. DMV gave me a new temp tag to take me out to 1 Dec.

All in all, a pretty painless process, and much quicker than I expected.

Thanks guys. I am excited to get up into the mountains more. We got out here in Feb, got some snowboarding in. Live in Ken Caryl. Got lucky with a house and now a new Rivian! Much better commuter than the 04 Discovery!

The default is for them to send everything to the DMV for you and the DMV just mails you plates. I've always had CU plates, which I didn't want to deal with the hassle of since Rivian handled everything. This caused my wife and a couple of friends to yell at me for not having CU plates for the past year. I just really don't want to go in to the DMV, even though it's 4 blocks from my house.

You should get a title complete notice in the mail. I got my R1T at the very end of March and had the notice sometime in May. Then you just go into the DMV (not the same location as driver license) where you'll pay ownership tax and registration as well as any additional for the plate type of choice. If you don't go with the standard plate then it'll be print on demand and they'll give you a new temp tag with your actual tag number and the plates will come in the mail a few weeks to 2 months later. First year ownership tax will probably be around $1.4k.

I just finished my taxes a couple days ago. That $7800 fed credit and $3500 Colorado credit really helped me out. I sold an acre plot in Fairplay, last summer, for a pretty sizable profit. Those credits helped out a lot.

I’m trying to decide if it would be better to bank the refund I got or use it to pay down the R1T. I had originally planned to refi the loan but the rates are too high for that to make sense.

I just took delivery on my R1S. Would you mind giving me (or pointing to) a quick summary of the steps to acquire these two rebates? Thx!

You're looking for Form 8936 on the Federal taxes.
For the State of Colorado, things may have change. There is a new rebate for 2023. However on my taxes, I used form DR 0617. Google those and I think you'll get the info you're looking for. Basically you just need the Make, Model, date it was placed in service, and the VIN number.
