I just hear it on really big unloaded bumps...typically corners where driverside unloaded. Pretty rare in mine.
I get that too. It's quite a sharp clang sound. I figure the SC will probably reject paying for dampers or half-shafts, so I need that to be part of a campaign or I'll end up paying out of pocket. I see gen 1 dampers on eBay for $1200 each. Some day gen 2's will be available and I'll just pay someone to swap them. Half-shafts..... there's no replacement part for that. Often, the grease inside new shafts will temporarily make you think it's fixed -- until it thins out and the chatter returns.

That exact sound from the video is what I have, but way louder. It also rattles like crazy now when I accelerate. It's not acceptable in the slightest, and it is the reason Rivian has agreed to repurchase my R1T. The fact that the Gen2 tri motor is doing the same thing confirms to me that I will not replace my Gen1 Quad with another Rivian. No $100k vehicle should sound like its about to rattle apart driving down the road. Unfortunately this means the end of the road for Rivian and I. Such a shame because this is otherwise a stellar vehicle.

Is there anyone out there that doesn't have these sounds? Sometimes I wonder if the people who don't complain about it are either oblivious or drive around with the volume blasting 24/7.

I think most of them make the same noises and the owners just don't care. Some people are just more sensitive to imperfections.

The half-shafts and dampers are noisy. Rivian tried to go all out on the suspension where coil over would have sufficed. The truck would have more lean in corners and more bounce though. Offroad capabilities would also be impacted.

My vehicle is in for service and I just got an update that they replaced both from half-shafts. That means that over the last month and a half, I have had the following replaced/updated:

Jounce lines/controllers
Front dampers
Half-shafts
Wheel hub to knuckle service

I'll report after I get the truck back from service.

I have a 2022 R1T and had squeaks, creaks, rattles. Finally got it back from service today and it's super quite. No more noise.

Replaced: front shocks, rear drive unit, half shafts, front subframe.
Good to hear! hope it holds up well for you. Did you get the updated jounce lines yet?
How many miles on the truck?

I'm guessing if they replaced the half shafts you had that infamous rattle from the front end?

I got my R1T back today after the SC replaced the half shafts. Just a crazy loud rattle box like before. Like a bucket of pool balls rolling around in the frunk. Its not all the time, just at speeds <40mph on uneven roads (which is what I've got where I live). Washboard and rutted roads are the worst. Sound is just in the front.

So to date, I have had the following:

Jounce line update
Wheel-hub TSB tightening
Front Damper update
Half shaft replacement.

I believe its been established that I have a newer cast subframe. If not any of these things, what on earth is causing this noise!?

My loaner 22 R1T was bad, too. In the loaner it was mostly interior rattles and terrible dampers. Really harsh ride.

Yeah, I mentioned the jounce lines, etc to SA SC and they said my truck (3600 Vin) wasn’t a candidate for those. But sounds like that did nothing for you, so guess I won’t waste my time. Mine is just as clunky at the low speeds you mention and then highway and speed bumps etc feel fine. I’m at a loss.

This impossible rattling...did they fix it with Gen2? Do all Gen1s do it?

That's the burning question for me.

Maybe...some have reported their G2 are perfect. No suspension noise and perfect build quality with premium audio that is only barely percieveably less than the Meridian audio they had before. Yet others say they have door alignment issues, clunk still present, and premium audio is terrible.

So who really knows?

Answers will vary wildly depending on who answers now...

I don’t hear this noise and drive around in silence pretty often. Gen2 R1T Dual.

I think there is a bit of variance to the sounds. It's in the upper teens outside right now and there's almost zero noise. When the temp is below 60F the sound lessens. When it's below freezing the sound is virtually gone. If I had the ability to inject grease into the half-shafts this would be history 365 days a year.

Sounds like we need a Gen 2 test drive. Still waiting for all the bugs to be worked out with those. In all honesty though I’m probably trading this one in on the R2. So may live with it.
