I brought the R1T into the SC for an alignment on Thursday. After getting it back, I started noticing a "clunk" when making hard left turns. Contacted the SC and they were great about it--just bring it in on Monday whenever convenient, which is cool. But I'm curious if anyone here has useful thoughts on the source of the problem. Can I possibly fix it by using harsh language? I've checked the lug nuts on the front tires, which were changed just prior to the alignment, and no issue there. Just curious. Thanks!

If it’s a clicking noise that sounds like it’s coming from the axle when turning at higher speeds, it’s probably the half shafts. I’m actually having mine replaced at Rivian Service right now on my Gen 2 R1S. Seems to be a common issue unfortunately.

They left a body in your gear tunnel to frame you for murder. Classic move.

I've been hearing, clicks, clunks, slop since forever. Replacing washers, half-shafts, regreasing...whatever...the noises always come back. Unfortunately. I've learned to live with it since it doesn't get any worse.

Our vehicles certainly make a suite of interesting sounds! My refrigerator came with a "cheat sheet" explaining what various sounds are--probably saves them from answering a whole lot of tech support phone calls. Rivian should probably do simillar!

I'll be curious to hear how my R1T sounds differently after this repair.

I got the truck back after having those half-shafts replaced. Man, what a difference! I guess the "slop" crept up on me--not only are the "clunks" gone, but the handling is noticeably stiffer. I've still got plenty of time on my warranty, but I'm still relieved to have caught this while it's in effect. I can easily imagine just getting used to the sounds and the slop (neither of which were very bad) and not getting the repair. I don't know what that would cost, but I'm sure it's not cheap!

That's great to hear. How many miles on the truck?

About 18,000.
I have a lot of slop in my steering, too. It used to be nice and tight. Now it overexaggerates every little imperfection in the road. Not a smooth ride anymore.
