Oh wait… CarPlay integration would solve that in a snap!?
While fun to joke about CarPlay, Rivian has publicly stated that CarPlay is not compatible with their software infrastructure. Now that VW is using the infrastructure, that even further cements the fact that CarPlay isn't going to happen.

Where did they state that? Rivian's infotainment is Android based as far as I know, so it's highly unlikelty that it's incompatible. Also not sure how you make the connection to VW using it making it any more or less likely. Rivian has been clear that they have no business interest in adding CarPlay, which is fine and their right to do, but let's not pretend it's anything other than a choice they have made.

You already have that stuff on your phone, which you can use while stopped. Why does it need to be on the display?

NO! First and foremost, they need to address the large amount of bugs/errors/fixes that keep compounding in every release.

Time to take a pause and focus on cleaning up the codebase vs pandering to the wishes of a few salty customers.

Yes, they made a plan. That was then, this is now. Times change, move on people and drive your truck.

(from 9to5 Mac May 2024):

Apple no longer merely wanted to project a copy of iOS onto the infotainment screen; it wanted the iPhone to oversee the mission-critical cluster behind the steering wheel. This stuff was sacrosanct in Detroit. GM’s Wexler says the next-gen CarPlay, which GM learned of before the announcement, was a “major factor” in its ensuing decision to divorce Apple.

If accurate, then it is a more fundamental technical decision for OEMs than adding a CarPlay iOS mirroring option.
