Benchmarking is different than direct copies of designs.
I should have put air quotes around the word. I've done work for multiple brands and talked to multiple insiders. It involves more than just running the cars on a track and comparing numbers. Munro Associates aren't doing tear downs just for YouTube money.

If a design is close enough to someone else's registered patent, that company can sue for infringement. This works everywhere EXCEPT China. That's the difference.

Looks like it ripped off both Ford and Toyota with styling cues. That’s the biggest problem with China cars. They look like they blatantly copied the homework assignment and that bothers me.

The fact that China doesn’t respect IP law and steals from other countries makes all their stuff unattractive to me.
Exactly. That’s what they do.

If you choose to own a vehicle the CCP has all access to, go right ahead.

I hope your social score increases and they let you travel wherever you want.
Right out of a Black Mirror episode..

Boastful isn’t part of Rivian brand DNA. That’s the other brand. I prefer Rivian’s modesty.

As for your neighbor, can’t fix stupid. All it takes is a quick web search to know Rivian.
Exactly. I know my truck kicks your vehicles ass, but I don’t need it to tell you ahead of time. Subtle excellence is a branding feat few others can accomplish. If Rivian can put out a $45k mid size for the average consumer considering an EV, and maintain that brand image, they’ll have accomplished a great deal.

I see what you did there. I certainly hope 99% of Rivian parts aren’t made in China.

If they are, I guess we’re all suckers for paying twice the amount over a BYD.
Yeah, not 99% of a Rivian, but sadly when you get under one and look around, you see a lot of "Made in China" stamped on components, even the wheels are made in China.

You’re correct. They do just rip off foreign brand designs and features. They’re not great.

I can't figure out for the life of me what Melania Trump has to do with China ignoring IP laws.
The Count assumed the statement was about the FUGLY face of the BYD truck?

If you choose to own a vehicle the CCP has all access to,
are these exempt from CCP interference? cell phones, tablets, penile implants, pace makers, tin foil hats etc.????? The Count doesn;t care if the Politburo knows when and how often he goes to the Giggly Room.

BYD (Build Your Dreams) is the dumbest name for a car manufacturer I’ve ever heard.

I know it’s irrational, but it’s the automotive equivalent to someone with a face that just needs to be punched
Stellantis: Brightening with Stars.

Face it, America has its share (or maybe more) of stupidly named things. DOGE anyone?
