Has anyone tried to lube the rear calipers?

If like to clean and lube mine, I did the front service a few months ago easy since no ebrake on the front.

I'm curious if the truck will stay in neutral indefinitely or will it go to sleep and park itself. Was going to put weight on the seat belt on.

No, but watching! I'm at 55k miles and will need to do brakes when I swap back to AS tires. Mine have been wearing uneven on the inside pads, but plenty left on the outside pads.

Just thinking out loud here.. how about you put her in Neutral then disconnect the 12V battery?
I'd hate to be working on the caliper when the Rivian decides it's had enough of that and slams on the parking brake. Can you say "crushed fingers?". At least with the 12V bat disconnected that can not happen.

Like I said, just thinking out loud...

What if reconnecting leads to a brick?

Also, what about putting a block in between the calipers till it hits the lock? I believe the release lasts 120 seconds, so you've got a time fuse to pull it, compress it, and stick a block in. Once it hits resistance, it should stop squeezing, right?

What about just disconnecting the electrical connector when the brake isn't engaged?

Disconnecting the electrical connector could lead to a fault, but perhaps a reset afterwards would fix it?

Really this seems ridiculous. I know the tow mode will put it in Neutral for 15 mins with a count down timer so perhaps that is the safest way.

Chock the front wheels and turn on the park brake release. Finish in 15 minutes or you'll have to turn on the release again.

Or buy TSN00547-300-C from Rivian.

Will it put the brake on before you can hit the release again? Or can you release when already released? I'm just looking to pull the pins grease and maybe pull the pads quickly and clean the ears off. So 15 min SHOULD be plenty of time once the wheels are off and bolts loosened.

Unless they weren't lubed properly and are wearing uneven. Have you rotated tires and poked your head in there? The insides, caliper side, wear quicker.

Or borrow yours? ?
The SC inspected them when they rotated my tires at 7500 miles.

I rarely use the brakes and I expect them to last forever.
The way I see it, it is precisely because they are rarely used that I decided to have them serviced. I do not have the tools or the desire, or perhaps even the required knowledge to lift up a heavy EV in my garage. I'd rather pay the professionals to have it done, and I know it will be done right.

Have done the same thing for my Teslas, both taken to a Tesla SC for brake servicing and replaecment of cabin filters and giant HEPA filter. Every two years. Worth it to me.

The factory techs plug in to the OBDII port and use Brake Service Mode on their tablet/PC to retract the parking brake for as long as needed. Without that software, the only way to prevent it from eventually re-engaging is to disconnect the 12V batt(s) when the parking brake is already retracted (place the vehicle in N). As @Riviot mentioned above, the possibility exists that it could brick the vehicle, but in most cases disconnecting the 12V batt(s) is the method used to un-brick the vehicle.

I for one would not service/lube the rear brake calipers on a Rivian given there is almost no way to power down the 12V system.

I watched the tech unplug and plug in my 12v battery 3 times when it was all disconnected for service. He didn't seem worried.

I don't understand why cars have basically become unserviceable! It's a tough adjustment for someone what has never brought their car to a shop. I've done all my service on all my cars head to toe. For my lexus I got the toyota tech software so I can perform some hidden functions.

I wouldn't mind buying tools but not if it's $500 for each tool vs $500 for one tool that does all.
