There is evidence suggesting Rivian‘s software blends braking with regen, more than other BEVs. Considering the R1 is over 7k pounds, it’s plausible, for sake of safety/liability.
Pretty sure it only does that when using regen assist, which will add more friction brakes when motor regen is reduced. It's a great feature.

Adding friction brakes would make the truck perform poorer in the city cycle of the EPA test. The motors are capable of crazy amounts of braking force via regen that's well untapped. As a similar example, the Ioniq 5N in track mode can generate 0.6g of braking force from the motors alone while in track mode.

Maybe I remember the price wrong: MN SC quoted me $440. I declined.

Extremely easy DIY if you’re at all handy and want to save money. Equipment for a one-person job and brake fluid can be purchased for under $100.
I assume it's just like bleeding any other traditional brake system? No requirement for some gizmo to be activated by a scan tool?

There is a electronic parking brake release tool SC uses. But I don't know if it's necessary to perform a fluid flush. https://rivianservicetools.com/

WOW, thanks for that link for the Rivian tools! Don't need it right now but will save it for future reference.

I have a self bleeder set up. Just curious about the Rivian side of things. Which seems to be nothing special is required outside of make sure the parking brake is not engaged.

Note that brake release will turn off after 15 mins. Alternative is car wash mode with wheel chocks front and rear side of vehicle.
otherwise you’ll need that tool from Rivian

The site is supposedly maintained by SnapOn and show what Rivian SC uses. Most of it not relevant to owners. Some are... Like which jump packs they use (so you can get the same or look up specs for lower cost equivalent). Or, the jack stands they use (made by Rennstand).

That’s what I was thinking.
