I got some of my latest updates (weeks after deployment) during the C+ trial period. Folks who don't want to pay for priority need to realize that one-two week waits were experienced by many before C+ even existed. Bottom line is it's not feasible or wise to push an update to everyone all at once.
Fully agree. But delaying a heavily advertised time-limited update is just screaming of “dick move” to delay.

Ha! The way this company operates is hilariously stupid sometimes. I mean, I'm a fanboy and love them, but there are some aspects that make you think it's run by 5-year-olds.
why? Of course people who pay are going to get updates first. It would be stupid not to.

No it's not. Last year I had about a week of halloween mode. Seems like it will be the came for non C+ users. Ones that subscribe get an extra week. Seems fair to me.

I think you missed the part about me being a C+ subscriber. I signed up for the annual membership before the trial was even done. Or are you referring to a super secret membership level that I don’t even know about?

well that sucks. Are you on Wifi? Did you buy the Rivian new or used? Not sure why you wouldn't have gotten the update by now.

Bought it new and had it since June 2023. I’m not too worried about the update itself but don’t want this to be an indication of any other potential glitches, which could see me not get the update (or future ones) at all. Been on WiFi at home for the better part of the last three days.

Some may find this interesting. I called Rivian just to make sure they didn’t have anything on their end showing an issue or reason I hadn’t gotten it. I was told that priority updates are not part of C+. However, despite the small sample size, the poll in this thread pretty much proves C+ membership and priority updates is a thing. At least for all but 7 of us. ?

The more I've considered it, the more I've concluded that it's just wrong to have time-limited features impacted by Connect+. Other than that, I don't have an issue with C+ subscribers getting updates sooner.

As they've pitched it, the reason for Connect+ costing what it does is the bandwidth usage/data (value) C+ subscribers get (hotspots, streaming, satellite imagery, etc.). That part seems perfectly fair. If you want features that have an ongoing cost to Rivian to provide, you should expect to pay for them, and a subscription model for that sort of thing makes perfect sense. They've not advertised that time-limited seasonal themes are part of the C+ value, but it seems they have employed that as a tactic to drive subscriptions.

One way they could have implemented this (and the way I had expected to see it) would be to embed the time-limited features in an earlier release, and then switch them on for everyone simultaneously. C+ subscribers would still get access to the other real features earlier, plus the actual bandwidth/data features they're paying for, without shorting the non-C+ subscribers who would like to enjoy the full value of a non-C+ time-limited fun feature.

Another way they could have gone (and tbh I'd really prefer this) would be to remove the artificial time limit. It's been suggested that the seasonal features might be time-limited on account of licensing (plausible for some parts, but not others), but in general, there are lots of things that owners might like to enjoy whenever they're in the mood. The owl hoot, or crow sound, or seasonal lighting, etc. Why shouldn't we have access to those parts year-round? Rivian paid to develop them so they're a sunk cost, not an ongoing cost like bandwidth/data. Many owners would like to enjoy those features at will.

When C+ was announced, I made the conscious decision not to subscribe based on the perceived value to me of the bandwidth/data products they offered with it. I decided to try things without it and see if using my phone's hotspot and data plan would suffice since most of the things I wanted from C+ could be gotten that way. If I felt differently about Gear Guard Live Cam or some other things I might have come to a different conclusion. Now I see that with the bandwidth/data features (that I may not want or need), there is also a fun-factor cost they hadn't disclosed when they advertised C+.

This dick move on the part of Rivian to short non-C+ subscribers (and a few C+ subscribers too) on a fun non-C+ feature is just not cool. In the grand scheme of things it may be minor, but it's still not cool - and it makes me sad to see such a cool company employing such a dick move.

I am a Connect+ subscriber and have yet to see the update come through.

I had my 12V battery replaced via mobile service on Thursday and am now wondering if this affected my OTA update coming through for some reason...

I'm feeling a bit anxious about the new Rivian 2024.39 release and wanted to reach out to see if anyone without a Connect+ subscription has received the update yet. Most of the discussions I’ve seen seem to be from those with the subscription.

I noticed on the Rivian website that software updates for non-subscribers might come after all Connect+ users have received theirs. I'm tempted to get the subscription just for this month/update, especially since I've missed the Halloween theme the last two years and would love to experience it this time!

Thank you for any insights!
Kinda BS, really.

Is this a special update, OTA? Yes.

Are C+ subs first in line? Yes.

Did you have the choice to be a C+ sub? Yes. And you still do.

Any update, OTA is now "a C+ feature", as in priority access to it.

Correct me if I am wrong. The OTAs have never been delivered to every Riv owner on the same day.

Absolutely! Dick move, Rivian!

I've had the R1T for more than two years - been loving its looks/performance/handling and some surprising/playful features like Halloween hoot owl of previous. I don't need Connect +, and will not subscribe. I have already canceled my 2025 Quad pre-order, currently looking to trade my R1T. The real issue for me is the waiting for the Slate Sky/Walnut interior to surface on the Tri Motor. If it doesn't become available soon, I might just go for... the Beast! :swear:

I consider getting deprioritized for updates being a great feature for not being subscribed. Now bad updates won't get pushed to me before they can be pulled. Things are looking up! I'm thinking to leave wifi off too. .35 has an insane vampire drain though. Feels like 4% per day now which is a bummer.

I got interviewed by the LA Times about Rivian for an article next month. I was pretty nice really. Still want them to succeed as a company. :)

The audio is staying on in this release for many even when the sound is off. Need to lock doors, unlock, open, close, lock again.
Maybe happening to you too.
