I promise this is not meant to be snarky... After seeing so many people posting various solutions to prevent their phones from sliding around on the charging mat, I had to report that the leather Apple case for the iphone ($59) works just fine.

When I put it on the phone on the charging mat it starts charging right away and it doesn't slide around at all when I drive. No 3D printer or soldering iron required.

if I drive the vehicle, it will definitely slide around!!
Even a stronger magnetic hold may not hold mine. I agree completely. I have just said “yup, plugging will just happen”.

I had a similar “fix” with my MagSafe case and wallet. If I take the wallet off and lay it horizontally from one edge of the pad it holds the phone in place in one of the only places it charges.

Works if you have a 12, I have one. Doesn’t work with a 14 Pro. A 14 Pro won’t charge, with or without a case.

But I also don’t have issues with sliding either..

The wireless charging was the biggest positive surprise for me so far with my truck. When we got the truck, I told my wife it would be next to worthless based on all of the forum whining I had read on here. Her Galaxy 9 started charging immediately. My Galaxy Note 8 initially didn't, because I was pushing it back and left as far as I could thinking that is where it should be. I still set my phone there, but just didn't expect it to charge. One day riding a hilly, windy, bumpy, unpaved forest road, I glanced down and was surprised to see the charging light on. So I played with it a little and found I just needed to slide the phone forward a little and it would very easily connect. I have also seen it slide to a diagonal position and remain connected and charging. It has to move quite a bit before it disconnects, and usually only does if it slid back a little. Takes 2 seconds to slide it up a bit to reconnect if I notice it did. I have an Incipio hard cover on it that I'm sure helps reduce sliding a little too. Bottom line, wireless charging works just fine for me.
