Wonder if the rear side windows will still pop out. There’s some speculation thy might have nixed it.

Driving with the rear window down is only possible with an EV.

I remember driving a hatchback with the hatch left open to carry stuff
and all the exhaust fumes where going back into the cabine.
Someone better tell Toyota.

and all the exhaust fumes where going back into the cabine.
Never a big problem with the Toyota Tundras or 4Runners I have owned….

Depends on what your goal is- this could be seen as a feature.

I learned to drive on a '72 Chevy Country Squire Station Wagon that had the electric "clamshell" rear window and tailgate that slid down in front of the bumper - complete with the "tail gunner" rear-facing seat as the 3rd row. I haven't had a vehicle with a sliding rear window since (although the window in our 2016 Highlander hatch does open out on struts). Looking forward to the R2!

When I was a kid, I rode up-and-down the Pacific Coast Highway in the back of a Subaru Brat, with no seatbelts and lots of pre-catalytic converter exhaust. It didn't did me any hurt. Me brein werks swel.

Nothing better than a 4runner in the 90s with 5 windows down. Except for maybe the targa off on the supra....

That's because, at speed, air being displaced around the car creates a low pressure area (vacuum). With EV it's still there and you're sucking in dust & debris. And to avoid having dust in every nook and cranny, even without exhaust fumes, I still wouldn't do it unless at low speed.

Reminds me of our 1977 Chevy Malibu. It had a hole in the back seat floor right above the hole in the exhaust. We put a floormat over it. That's okay though, the heater core was also leaking so we bypassed it. If we needed heat, we'd just remove the floormat and let the exhaust come in. 😆😭
