^^this... As far as I've heard the answer is no. I think that it comes back to controls architecture updates that were intentionally made to this end on Gen 2.

As a gen 1 owner, it's been a really tough pill to swallow that our architecture is already obsolete when it comes to these feature sets even if , on the surface, it feels like my truck could do it.

The company is giving us some quality of life updates. But i would guess the map in the main part of the drivers display on this last update is as advanced as Gen 1 will see moving forward as the development loops are resourced for current and future gen.

Still love my truck, just want to be able to tinker🫤

There is no reason why this cannot come to G2 dual. The could be a reason why some of this will not come to G1. I think the real reason is 💰. Same reason why Casting video is blocked over wifi, unless you have Connect+.

Gen 1 will also be getting the Rivian Assistant when that launches.

Sure there is! Rivian is creating an incentive for people to buy the Gen2 Quad. It is a good approach, I think.

Well our Tri wasn't cheap so Rivian should give us 3/4 of the RAD features and 1/2 to dual performance.

I believe you paid for what you got when you drove it home the first day, nothing more.

Unfortunate. But, as early adopters, consequences of a fast changing world is a given. Even some Gen 2 owners felt it when gen 3 autonomy was revealed just last month. And Gen 2 launched only in June '24. The first R2 owners will feel it once again in late '26 when Rivian adds LiDAR. Even if you hold out indefinitely, you will be left behind to some extend the moment you commit to buy. And that's the crux with software & tech defined vehicles. Gestation period from generation to the next is much shorter than ICE (which is typically 10 yrs between major model line re-do).

And gen 1 motors were sourced from Bosch. Whether you want to believe it or not, Rivian said it has inherent hardware limitations that cannot be overcome with software. Ultimately they were not satisfied with the level of control possible and they were not confident of the motor's reliability if they'd allowed tank turn. Plus, as the company has moved on to in-house motors, financially it makes no sense for them to devote manpower developing for a out-sourced motor that has hasn't been on their production lines since launch of in-house quad. Plus, the number of gen 1 owners is now fixed... declining even, as folks either move on or upgrade.

Should they have launched gen 1 with in-house motors to start with? Personally, I believe so. But they had a launch date they'd already missed and they needed to start deliveries soon or else. So, they plowed on with many things that weren't quite ready (i.e. power tonneau). Lots of things in the business world are launched before they're perfect, for sake of meeting deadlines. Software industry is full of examples.

Genuinely curious, why wouldn't you want the acceleration setting to be at 100% other than maybe a snow/ice type situation?

Throttle control. I could definitly use this when trying to line up a trailer. The "on throttle" response of the car makes the car jerk on and off from a stop. Allowing a gradual/slow accelleration would be nice.

Could they develop a RAD tuner for G1?
Absolutely!
Even if it wasn't to the 100% of the ability of G2's; they still could.

Will they?
Probably not.
Sunk cost with no "on paper" gain.
Even though it would do wonders for brand loyalty in the long run.
(I would consider buying it if they made it available as a S/W paid upgrade, $500-$1000)

My current pet peeve is Tesla and Lucid have compute upgrades available for their cars.
Rivian does not, yet, have that compatibility.
(G1's will probably never see this)

Which I find a bit irritating as it goes against their who ethos of being friendly for the environment.
