I just finished uploading a full and complete install video of the EVplay box (by @EV Play - Alex) in a Rivian R1T Gen1.

I was able to get native GPS working with a $20 USB Antenna bought on Amazon (See video description),

I also custom designed a button mount with a mic mount below it that sits between the air vents (Similar to others designs, but round, and with the mic mount) 3d file also in the video description.

Check it out!

I believe that's the same GPS antenna that Alex sells, no ? I have that one and while I can see the coordinates in GPS Connector, they do not transfer to Google maps. I have a bluetooth GPS unit that works with the Bluetooth GNSS app, but the lag is terrible.

Also, just FYI, if you pull the A-Pillar cover open, you can run the USB cable right down into the footwell from there.

Not sure if it's the same one, though he isn't selling them anymore.
This one is working with every app I've tried, Google maps, osmand, gps test, Waze etc.
Almost no lag either, works great, you just need to make sure all the settings are correct. Plus it's soooo much cheaper then Bluetooth options.
Good to know about the A pillar option. I figured it was possible, but didn't want to risk breaking clips. Plus for a lot of people doing their own install,I wanted to make it as non intrusive as possible.

Thanks!

The install looks like a nightmare.

I would suggest putting a very long ziptie on the cable before you disconnect it - so you don't lose it and have something to grab.

Wow, it seems slow, glitchy, and clumsy to use.
No not really, once you get used to how it likes to operate, it's perfectly fine. Besides, it's this or nothing lol

I wouldn't say nightmare, but definitely harder then first thought based on install videos. Also, your milage may vary, might have just been me and my sausage fingers

Uh...no.

I've been watching the EV Play stuff to see about having a bigger CP screen, but the lagginess I see in the video might make me insane.
Uh...yes... This is currently the only way to get it on the big screen.
I also have the other way, as you can see on the video. I even 3d printed a mount for the screen to sit in.
But this is also more then just Android auto, it's full on Android, meaning you can watch videos or play games or whatever right on the big screen.

So it's this or nothing.... And by that on referring strictly to the big screen.

It's really not that laggy to be completely clear. I just used it a few minutes ago, and its actually pretty smooth within Android auto. The lag comes really only when switching between the os's.

Any lag is irrelevant, it's still totally worth it, if even just to be able to watch YouTube without paying a stupid subscription.

I'll be doing a full review in about a month, and I won't be pulling punches.

We have different priorities and that's important in any review. I will never watch videos or do games or whatever in the car. I want a highly responsive way to interact with both the car and my phone. Pretty much all business, no entertainment.

Keep in mind, this was an install video, not a review....
