Not a good look, Rivian. Your filming crew should have done their due-diligence, too.

From everything I've read on this, it really was a mistake on the permit-issuer's side of things. It's not Rivian's responsibility to see if the area is free or not... that's why there is a permitting process that involves checking for these things.

Doesn't work that way. The camera car is a a rental. Rivian doesn't own it. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/r1s-arm-car-camera-rig.49423/

Once a shoot is permitted and scheduled, the show must go on. Because, whether you use the camera rig or not, you're still paying. If you cancel the shoot, you're still paying. And when you reschedule and need it again, you gotta rent it again—if it's even available and not rented by some other production. Rental fee is not cheap. The arm alone is worth half a mil. And it's not just the cost of the camera car. Any professional drivers, extras and models you've hired for the shoot. If you cancel, you still have to pay for their troubles.

The production crew is most likely not comprised of locals (usually aren't). They wouldn't know there's a scheduling conflict with a cycling event. The city permit staff are the ones who are expected to know—how to read a booking calendar—and do their jobs. The city issued the permit. As far as the crew is concerned, it's a green light. This is no different from a wedding venue that is big enough to host only one widding mistakenly booking two for the same day.

Sorry that happened to all of you cycling Seattleites. If it’s any consolation, at least it was an add for an EV and not an ICE vehicle. 🤷‍♂️
