Rivian R1T R1S Toyo Open Country AT3 EV (LT275/65/20) - 17K Mile Review on the Rivian R1T DSC02152-Enhanced-NR

After 17,000 miles on the Toyo Open Country AT3 EVs, I can confidently say they are one of the best tire choices for Rivian R1T owners. I have previously run the stock Pirelli Scorpions and the Falken Wildpeak AT4Ws, and the Toyos strike the best balance of efficiency, durability, and all-terrain performance.

The stock Pirelli Scorpions wear quickly and are notorious for punctures. The Falkens are tougher and provide great traction but are heavier, and in my experience they caused balancing issues. The Toyo AT3 EVs are built specifically for electric vehicles, and that difference shows in daily use.

The AT3 EV starts with 15/32" of tread depth, and after 17,000 miles of road trips, forest trails, and off-road use, mine are still sitting at 13/32". That is impressive treadwear for an EV truck that puts extra stress on tires due to weight and torque.

What sets the EV version apart from the standard AT3 is the design. The AeroWing sidewall lugs improve aerodynamics, while the compound and reinforced construction lower rolling resistance and handle EV torque without sidewall squish. They are lighter than the Falkens, which helps efficiency, but still tough enough to handle solo adventures where puncture resistance matters. I run the 126 load rating for that extra confidence.

On road, road noise is there but manageable, especially compared to wind noise from my Super Pacific setup. Offroad, they grip well in mud, gravel, snow, and sand, and they have not let me down when traction matters.

For Rivian owners looking for a tire that performs better than stock, rivals the Falkens, and is tuned for EV efficiency, the Toyo Open Country AT3 EV is my top recommendation. They start deep, wear slow, and balance strength with range in a way few all-terrains do.

If you want a tire that can handle daily driving and serious adventures, the Toyo Open Country AT3 EV will not let you down.

Might want to specify if these are the P-metric or the LT tires.

Do you have any data on range difference between the three tires?
I only have 4k miles on my Pirelli's, but I'll go with Wildpeaks (had them on my Bronco and loved them) or Toyo EVs.

10k miles on my Toyo Open Country AT3 EV (LT version) and I can say better efficiency, better off-road, less noisy, super happy. i'm on a gen 1 launch edition, I averaged 2.38 on the stock pirellis and so far 2.6 on the toyo.

It is a little tricky with all of it since each set of tires had a different vehicle load out. My Scorpions were on my first gen quad for a little while and got over 2.0. My falkens had an ikamper on the back on and off which was about 1.8. The Toyos have been with my Super Pacific and still runs about 1.8. I am assuming I would be closer to above OEM with no camper on.

So I may be the outlier. I had a great experience with the scorpions. They lasted over 45k miles, went off road numerous times, averaged 1.9kw efficiency, and were relatively quiet.

So after a lot of research and advice I went with the Toyos. First they do look great but I’ve started having road noise that didn’t have before with the OEM tires.

It’s been a little over 1500 miles with them and I may go back to discount tire to get them looked at. Again I think I’m the only person that was happy with the OEM tires. My truck did come with the aero 21s that I sold to move to the 20s.

I think the Open Country ATIII EV (mine are LT) are the tires to beat on a Rivian for an all-terrain use case. They're excellent daily drivers for what the class of tire and perform well off road.

Did you just change to the 20" size, or did you have 20's before that made it to 45K miles?

Well said. I have had these for 1,000 miles on my R1s quad motor. Love them. So far range is better than OEM Pirellis and Nitto Grapplers. Getting 2.25 so far. Pirellis were around 1.95 and Nittos were 2.05.

I'm hesitant to speak to road noise (which was my #1 priority) because they are so new. But so far they are quieter than both previous tires. Pirellis were unbearable after 12k miles. NIttos were much better but still loud on the highway st 70 MPH+. So far these are the much quieter than both.

Rim & tire combo looks great! What's the details on the rims?

Just ordered these today. I don't do any heavy towing or off-roading so went with the standard load rated ones. They show up as the default recommendation under Tire Rack so figured it wasn't detrimental. Wonder if they'll be any differences feel/efficiency wise compared to the LT.
