I unfortunately was involved in an accident yesterday where another car pulled out in front of me to cross three lanes of traffic and turn left. I have a 2022 R1T and the car I hit was a 2012 Hyundai Accent.

I was traveling approximately 25-30mph at the time of the impact and wow, I’m amazed the truck handled so well!!! As the photos show, the car I hit was totaled whereas my truck had only the front smashed in. No drive ability issues as I drove away from the accident and miraculously none of the headlights where broken either! So far obviously my camera system is offline and I believe my AC isn’t working because the front AC condenser got hit but otherwise, I am shocked and amazed at the crashworthiness of these trucks! The front body work will be fixed but it even seems like the main bumper held up and didn’t fall apart.

Everyone I’ve shown the pictures to is amazed that more damage didn’t happen. I’m fixing this truck but now more than ever I’d highly recommend them to anyone. And yes, the other driver was also amazingly totally fine from the accident.

Not surprised. Heavier cars have more structural integrity baked in. Plus, inertia. Heavier object usually have upper hand. Downside, now you find out how expensive repairs are even for seemingly light damage. Expensive repairs and expensive cars go hand-in-hand. Especially when it’s a EV.

Be prepared, I was reading a post of someone in Montreal I believe, similar front end damage, which ended up costing roughly 56k Canadian to repair.

I definitely hope not, but I'll update this as soon as the body shop has a look at it.

Glad you're ok. What concerns me is (1) the time wasted to run around with this now, (2) if repairable what happens with diminished value and (3) if totalled you have to start looking for a used replacement or buy something else or fork over the additional amount to replace with new. All the best.

Glad you survived this horrible accident!

Bet your repair costs are greater that the other vehicle though.

Given a minor, low speed ( < 3mph ) collision to my rear side fender cost $18,000 to repair, this R1 repair will be at least $30k or the insurance will consider the truck totaled.

Some states have laws on what constitutes a total. Generally 60%~100%. CA does not. Per Google, for Kansas it's damage over 75% of actual cash value (of vehicle). Early R1T are what? mid-50k to mid-60k?

So glad everyone was safe, that was the important part of all of this. Keeping my fingers crossed that you aren't totaled.

Beautiful R1T. That limestone really is gorgeous.

Driver/passenger survivability, yes! As for the actual vehicle, doubt it survives the insurance gods.

Couldn’t agree more. Yeah the weight is a major factor, of course.
‘New Car Replacement’ coverage - if you can find/get it - is well worth it. I got ‘first 3 years’ worth for $38/year from Nationwide/Rivian. It bought me a new $100K Gen2 when mine was totaled in an accident that on my R1T looked about as bad as yours (the Silverado that rear-ended me looked way worse and was also totaled). Link: Here
