I was too excited when I got my truck and I ordered a 21” spare from Rivian before realizing that I’d be stuck if I switched to 20’s later.

Spent a long time trying to figure out options and someone recommended I try the 275/60R-20 (GOODYEAR WRANGLER TERRITORY AT RIV RIVIAN XL) since the overall size is quite close and I can still keep the same spare. They were also a lot cheaper than the stock 21s and seem better rated for snow so I’m happy. We’ll see how they behave.

Now at least I have the option of staying on 20s with a different size after winter or just keeping the two sizes. The 21s are great for summer for me so I don’t see a reason to switch. I’ve also gotten at least 27k miles out of the stock ones so that’s much better than my model X.

Got the same tires. Took about 500 miles to get better efficiency with my custom forged 20” wheels vs 21” oem. Great choice
did you just inflate them to the same PSI as the stock 21's? I'm a little confused on this :)

Trying to decide something similar. Are there better snow tires options on 20” than 22” or 21”? (21” I believe are sparse and haven’t heard of any snow tires)

Wait, you’re getting better efficiency with the Goodyears than the OEM 21” Pirelli
Scorpions!?

Yes I am getting better efficiency. Im guessing it’s the reduction in wheel and tire weight from oem 21”

Good discussion. For those new to Rivian (wheels/tires), Rivian may update software (in 2025?) to provide drivers the ability to conveniently reprogram speedometer software (for OEM wheel-sets). If so, switching between 33” and 34” diameter tires (currently found on Rivian OWM 20”, 21”, and 22” wheels) will be (I assume) easy and free.

The OEM 275/65R20 tire size offers the greatest number of Rivian-acceptable (Load Index 116+) aftermarket tire choices (as discussed extensively on Rivian Forums).

Interesting.

This may support a theory—that the longest range may be possible (not by the 22” wheel-set, but) by 20” wheels with 34” (pavement-favoring) (with higher-profile = larger sidewall height) tires. I hope to test that later this year.

People claim the general grabber gets better efficiency too when paired with forged wheels

I agree ?
...
Voltaic forged wheels with 275/60R20 (33") OEM(?) Goodyear tires, correct?
  • That is cool that you can put Rivian-insignia center caps back into those Black Rhino aftermarket wheels.
  • No problem with the slightly different offset of the Voltaics?
  • Did you have them powder-coated black? (The matte gunmetal looks less dark on the Black Rhino webpage.)
So do you have a Gen 2 Dual Standard R1T? NO; you have a Gen 1 R1T, had the OEM 21" wheels, and switched to the (Gen 2) 33" Goodyear tire because (a) they are OEM for Rivian and (b) you wouldn't have to reprogram the speedometer software, correct? (Trying out my Sherlockian deductive-reasoning skills, based on a photograph, here.)

Interesting that these tires are now used on Rivian's Dual Standard All-Season wheel-sets. (The only non-Pirelli OEM tire, right?)

I sure would love the opportunity to sit down with a Rivian tire engineer and ask questions.

In my research I found the most (and least costly) snow tire options for 20" wheels. I went with some Nokian Hakkapellitta R5s and MSW Type 52 wheels from tirerack.
