Has anyone noticed the yellow bar will not max out at highways speeds at full throttle in sport?

Try it in all purpose and while the response is slow you will see the bar max out. (Assuming sufficient charge temps, and traction)

but this is not enough for me I love performance and data. I used the service screen to confirm that in sport while at low speeds you will get 1600amp briefly above 40mph the amps max out at 1400amps, in all purpose over 40 you will get 1600amps. With a full charge the voltage will sag to about 385v if you do the maths 385x1600 =616kw or about 825hp this seems on point. But why why why do we only get 700hp when in sport over 40?

I was even more shocked when this was backed up by repeated 50-100 runs using a “draggy” measuring device.
Average 50-100
Sport 6.25
All purpose 5.52
That is 14% slower in sport!

I ran this experiment on multiple days slightly varying all possible variables like ride hight traction control ect and yet the results are consistent within a few %

I would love to see if anyone else can confirm this. The good news is that the yellow bar is a true representation of the amps. Or power however you want to think of it. Just imagine 835hp or 1600amps at the top (gen1 quad)

I would also love to see if this is the case on some of the other motor setups especially if someone is willing to get in the service screens and see what amps the gen2s are pulling.

First photo is sport , second is all purpose 3rd is draggy comparison of 50-100 times

Interesting, I'll give this a try tomorrow after I charge my batteries up a bit (Sitting at around 40% currently).

Never have seen the bar max out in all-purpose. Only time in sport was at launch. Interesting that they've changed all-purpose but didn't touch sport.

I've no idea where my dragy is to repeat your experiment, and I'm still on .43

With the impending update I should have clarified that I am still on .43 (pre update) as the timing of this post coincides with a update that will change all purpose mode. This is completely unrelated to the new software.

Dark-FX that is interesting that your bar never maxes out in all purpose. This is exactly what I wanted to start a discussion about. Do I have a freak broken (in the best way) truck that is giving me max power in AP by mistake? could my truck possibly be even faster with a well timed change from sport to AP without lifting from the throttle? who knows.

Have you ever messed around in the Service screen and looked at the amps?

Hopefully some other chime in on if/when they can get the full yellow bar. and even better if anyone else has more data.

I would imagine the definition of what “sport” constitutes is subjective. For Porsche, it’s lap
Times. For Bugatti, it’s top speed. For others, might be something else.

my guess is that Rivian assumes that drivers wanting to go sporty subjectively want most power early on below 40mph for those red light and stop sign take offs.

Also curious what this looks like on the performance dual motor trucks. I may give it a try, though I don't have a Dragy.

I actually noticed that the other day while in sport mode, that the power bar stopped about 15% short of the top. I thought it was odd and a bit of a hint at underutilized power. I can't remember for certain, but I believe the front motors were fully powered, and the rear were shy at around 85%

This is a good point. I know the performance Teslas are have some strange programing differences between track and drag based on thermal management. However I cant see any reason why we would not want full power in sport at faster speeds. The expected outcome was the inverse of the results.

I do still prefer Sport with the drastically better throttle response but im kind of bumbed now that I know I have to put it in AP to get full power on the highway.

Maybe the update will make AP more responsive and that will just become the go to for me.

What is this “winter” anomaly you speak of?

You mean it is not a beautiful sunny day in the mid 70’s everywhere today? ?

I noticed this months ago and repeated it several times since. No love for full power at highway speeds in sport mode :( I even posted about it back then.

Did your post Spark a good conversation? is so can you drop the link?

I can not believe this is not a huge discussion? Sometime I feel like im one of very few who purchased (at the time) the quickest pickup truck ever made for that reason.

We are all driving around in $100k supercar fast bada$$ offroad trucks and the big discussions are always about how to save $0.00001 per mile or how to get 1% further on a full charge even though we could just stop and charge a bit the hand full of time a year most of us drive over 300 miles. But I digress.

Hopefully more will chime in and maybe we Spark enough discussion that Rivian will let us use our extra 125 HP in sport.

I think it would also be very interesting to see the output of a base G1 truck in all purpose.

No, those who commented really just brushed it off at the time. Doesn’t seem like a big deal to most, as you pointed out.

I bought it for the same reason. I thought a community of enthusiast will develop but most owners are duds and dinks.
