Hopefully the buttons are laid out in way that I don't have to look at the key fob to use it. With the current fob, it's impossible to tell if I'm even pressing a button or just pressing the Rivian logo on the backside of the fob. Makes it frustrating to use at night

Button layout on a key fob isn't standardized so whatever, when I used a key you just learn it over time, after a bit never looked at it again. With my Rivian I never use the key anyway always the phone.

I bought a simple leather key fob cover to protect the fob from falls (I only use it for valet parking). In the dark you'd know that the snap was the back side and then you really only need to remember left from right for unlock and lock. Might be worth the $12 for you...

UWB, would that mean this is for Gen2 only? I am one of the ones who will never give up having a fob, but would like one that's more reliable if possible...

so what does this mean other than a change in the design not being a carabiner any longer? better performing key fob?

Gen 1 vehicles are not UWB compatible.

with card access and phone, stop wasting money on key fob
I've tried PaaK and it has proven unreliable. I still have to wake my truck periodically (like a few times a week) via the app. This happens mostly after sitting overnight. Fortunately I've never had the truck "coma" experience in a place without cell signal where I was unable to wake it with the app.

Giving a valet or a family member a card and telling them where to stick it doesn't work as well as you may think.

Glad Rivian has released a fob for the gen2 vehicles.

Rivian should keep the fob and continue improving the design. The first puts too much emphasis on looking cool at the expense of making it more difficult to use and remember than pretty much every fob I've ever owned.

I gave up using the fob after PAAK became more reliable, but those that borrow my vehicle use it exclusively. Also, the fob is what I give to the SC when dropping off. So, I really hope Rivian's answer isn't "stop wasting money on a key fob".

Honestly, in the beginning I used to carry the fob, but now I don’t even know where it is! If they can improve the speed of the Pak, that would be great. I have never had to stand by my Tesla and wait for the door to unlock, but in the 1S, 90/10, I will be waiting.

I would like this, but also want the UWB key function for Apple Watch and Wallet that was listed as a feature when I bought my Gen2.
